Notes: This is one of my early conversation fics, and I have always absolutely hated the way I ended it. I thought it was complete crap. This isn't fabulous, but it's better (not that it matters cause it's all fluff anyway).

“So, I’ve been thinking.”

“Hello to you too, Cordy.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you wanna know what I’ve been thinking?” “Angel??”

“I’m not sure.”

“You’re not sure?”

“Well, your mind is a vast and scary place, Cordelia, and I’m just not sure…”

“Vast and scary? What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Nothing. What are you thinking?”

“Oh, trust me, you don’t want to know what I am thinking now.”

“Alright, what WERE you thinking?”

“Well, I’m not sure I want you to know anymore. You don’t deserve it.”

“Oh, Ok.”

“Angel!!”

“Geez! What?”

“I was playing hard to get with my thought, but it doesn’t work if you don’t TRY to GET said ‘thought’!”

“Cordy.”

“Angel.”

“Does this thought have anything to do with what happened last night?”

“No, it doesn’t have anything to do with what hap….Wait. How do you know what happened last night?”

“Cordelia, it’s ok.”

“It’s ok?”

“Sure. Why wouldn’t it be?”

“Oh… well….to be honest, Angel, I wasn’t sure how you would react.”

“Well, it might make things more complicated, but I think it’s great. This place could use a little romance.”

“Ok, who are you and what have you done with my sullen former employer?”

“Cordelia, as long as the dating doesn’t intrude onto our mission, I just don’t see a conflict.”

“Really? Wow….well that’s just…..wow. I don’t know what to say, Angel. I thought we were gonna have to leave you out of the loop on this one.”

“I’m not heartless, Cordy, I do understand that people need love.”

“Well, technically, Angel, your heart doesn’t….”

“Just…just. I’m fine with it, alright? Can you just take my word on that?”

“Absolutely. So now fess up! Who told?”

“No one. I saw them.”

“You saw them?”

“Yeah. Why are you looking at me like that? It’s not like I was spying. They did it right in front of me!”

“They? Who are you talking about?”

“The same people you were talking about, Cordy, Wes and Fred.”

“Wes and Fred? What the hell did you see Wes and Fred doing last night?”

“I saw them kissing in the….wait….that wasn’t what you were talking about?”

“They were kissing??? Wes made his move? Alright! That’s my boy!”

“Cordelia”

“I’m so proud of him! I wonder who made the first move? Maybe she jumped him like I told her to…but maybe he just decided to suck it up and be a man and…”

“CORDY”

“Geez! Rude much? What?”

“If you didn’t know about what happened last night, then what were YOU talking about?”

“Hmm…what?”

“Don’t give me that blank stare. What happened last night that you were going to ‘leave me out of the loop’ on?”

“Angel, did you know that it isn’t healthy to talk with your jaw clenched like that? I mean, I know you are the living dead and all, but still, I’m thinking TMG could be a threat. I had this friend with it once, and man oh man was it painful! Nothing to scoff at, let me tell ya. One time, during cheerleading practice…”

“Cordelia”

“Right. Uhm….Now, you were just talking about how great romance would be for our workplace, right?”

“But I meant…”

“AND you said that you didn’t really see dating as a conflict of interest as long as it stayed separate, right?’

“I was talking about Wes and Fred, Cordy.”

“Well, now, Angel, let’s think about this. I think you were speaking more universally than that. And if you’re honest, you’ll admit that what’s good for the goose is GREAT for the gander, and in that spirit….Angel, uhm, I think you ought to put the newspaper down because if you keep scrunching it like that there will be nothing left and then Wes won’t be able to…”

“Cordelia. If you don’t tell me what the hell you did last night…”

“You’ll what? Glare at me firmly till I crack? Ooh. Scary.”

“No, I’ll…I’ll…”

“Attempt to make me colorblind by dressing in monotone?”

“No. Try… cancel your subscription to Cosmo.”

‘You wouldn’t! That is a legitimate business expense!”

“Maybe if our business was giving the demon world a makeover before killing it.”

“That is…that is underhanded blackmail!”

“What can I say? I’ve gone dark.”

“Well, if you’re gonna go dark, the least you could do is wear the leather pants.”

“What was that?”

“Nothing.”

“So, do I call Cosmo, or are you gonna spill?”

“Alright, alright. But if you ask me, this little Machiavellian plot of yours is NOT the way to instill trust in this workplace!”

“Damn.”

“Ok, so last night. I sort of let Lorne…uhm….”

“You let Lorne WHAT?”

“I let him fix me up, ok??””

“You went out on a date LORNE picked out for you??”

“Don’t look at me like that! It’s not as desperate as it sounds. He has A LOT of connections, and plus, with the whole aura reading thing…I mean, he was made for this kind of thing!”

“Cordelia, this is NOT acceptable.”

“Wait a minute, what about it isn’t acceptable? Colin was a perfectly nice…”

“Colin? You went out with a guy named Colin? Nevermind. It’s not important. What isn’t acceptable, Cordy, is that you went out without telling any of us. What if something had happened??”

“Youweretheonlyonethatdidn’tknow…”

“Excuse me?”

“I SAID, You were the ONLY one that didn’t know! Oh, damn it, Angel. Don’t look at me like that! Why is it OK for everyone else to find someone, but I am expected to be some freaking nun? Do you see a habit on this head? NO. Am I not worthy of being loved? Is that the problem here?”

“Cordelia, how could you say that? Of course you deserve love. You deserve it more than anyone I know.”

“So?”

“So, you aren’t going to find it with some GUY named Colin!”

“Well then enlighten me, oh Pale One. Who AM I supposed to find it with?”

“I…uhm, I don’t……You need….”

“You know what? Nevermind. The last thing I need is your opinion on this matter.”

“Cordy…”

“Seriously Angel, let’s just drop it.”

“You think I don’t know what you are doing, but I do.”

“Angel. Subject. Drop. It.”

“You think the past three years have taught me nothing. It may take me awhile, but I learn my lessons and I learn them well.”

“Whatever.”

“See, I know what that means.”

“Wow. Really. That’s just impressive.”

“Yup. I know you don’t mean that either.”

“So you actually managed to catch the sarcasm dripping off my words, did you?”

“I catch a lot of things you don’t give me credit for.”

“Why on earth are you grinning? What could you possibly find amusing in this situation in which you have yet to dig your expensively clad foot out of your mouth?”

“You have your mysteries and I have mine.”

End.
