Part 1

Knock, knock, knock

“Cordy are you okay?” Angel asked clearly concerned, she had been in there for the last 10 minutes. In fact she’d been in there since he had entered the lobby from his suite. She had taken one look at him and fled to the bathroom, mumbling something about being right back.

“I’ll be out in just a minute!” Cordelia yelled through the door. She wasn’t quite sure exactly what had suddenly made her dash for the safety of the bathroom. She could do this. It was just a simple first date. A first date with Angel, her best friend, the man of her dreams. The person she loved more than any other in this world so why couldn’t she just go out there? There was one reason and one reason only. Fear. It was radiating from her. Hell Angel could probably smell it through the door. Maybe that’s why he wanted her to come out so badly. So he could gloat. He was making her hot and bothered and not the good kind of hot and bothered either. Okay bad thoughts really not helping!!

Cordelia looked at herself in the mirror. To the average onlooker she appeared to be cool, calm and collective but to a vampire with superior senses she was a nervous wreck. He would bust her in no time but then again this was Angel. Oblivious was his middle name. Okay, she could do this. One foot in front of the other and she’d be at the door in no time. She managed to reach the door. Her hand was on the handle. She so couldn’t do this.

Well, she needed to do something and fast, Angel would be breaking down the door in a couple of minutes and just how embarrassing would that be? What ya doing Cor? Oh nothing really Angel, I’m just hiding in here because I’m scared. That so wasn’t a conversation she wanted to be having right now.

Angel was on the other side of the door. He knew she was right on the other side of the door. He could just feel it. Plus he could hear her heart beating at a frantic pace. That couldn’t be good. He would give her another couple of minutes and then he was going in whether she liked it or not. He’d just got her back properly and tonight was meant to be their special night. Their first official date and so far they hadn’t even made it out of the starting blocks aka the Hyperion hotel. His home and her home as well now. Sure she was in a separate room to him, which was probably for the best because if she was in his bed he wasn’t sure if he would be able to keep his hands off her. To stop himself from touching places he was sure it wouldn’t be safe to touch.

Right, her two minutes was up. He was going in. With that the door opened and out came Cordelia. Slowly, ever so slowly. He wondered for a moment if perhaps she was injured. He gave her a quick once over. Nothing wrong there as far as he could see, nothing wrong at all. Okay let’s not go there just yet.

“Cordy are you okay? You’ve been in there for ages. I was starting to get worried. I thought maybe you’d changed your mind. I don’t know, had second thoughts. You didn’t have second thoughts did you?” Angel babbled. Okay when did he become Fred? Well at least he wasn’t stuttering. That would just make his evening perfect. What would Cordy think of him then? He was nearly 250 years old. He should be able to control his speech around a woman but this was no ordinary woman. This was Cordelia Chase. His best friend, his seer, the woman that he loved. Oh god, he was in deep trouble, this night was going to be a disaster. He’d be lucky if Cordy was evening talking to him by the end of the evening let alone wanting to go on a second date with him.

“No Angel, of course I haven’t changed my mind. What makes you think that?” Cordy replied, trying her very best to calm her heartbeat down. Maybe he had changed his mind but didn’t want to admit it. He had made such a big deal about them going out on this date. ‘I want to take you on a proper first date Cordy. Treat you like you deserve’. But what did that mean exactly? What did she deserve? A take away from a fast food joint followed by a quick kiss in the back of the Plymouth? With Angel being so tight with a buck, anything was possible.

“Noth, nothing really” Oh crap, he was stuttering. Why didn’t he just give up now? Maybe they just weren’t meant to be. She hated it when he stuttered. She’d told him often enough.

“Angel? Are you okay you look a little pale” Cordy said before she could stop herself. Of all the dumb things to say. Of course he looks pale Dumbass, he’s dead or undead. Whatever! Gotta get yourself out of this nice size hole you just dug yourself. “I meant paler than usual. You still wanna go out? If you’re not feeling well we could reschedule or not?”

A look of horror appeared on Angel’s face. She did want to cancel. He felt like someone had just kicked him in the gut, in fact someone had just kicked him in the gut. Not literately of course but that someone was Cordelia Chase. “Sure Cordy, some other time, if you want to that is. I’m going up to bed. I’ll see you tomorrow”.

With that Angel promptly fled out of the lobby before Cordelia could even reply. Not that she knew what to say. Angel had changed mind and now couldn’t even look her in the face. Why did she ever think it could work? Silently she too made her way up the lobby stairs. She had to go and take off her make up. Just who did she think she was, done up like a dog’s dinner, just who was she kidding? Obviously not Angel, he’d just bailed on her.

She made her way towards her room. Somebody was standing outside her room but it was just anybody, it was Angel! Oh god, what did he want now? She prayed he didn’t want to apologise for changing his mind because she simple couldn’t take that right now. She needed to get inside before she turned into a bubbling wreck in the hallway.

“Cordy” Angel started, his voice coming out slightly higher than normal, he gave a small cough and tried again “Cordy, I’m sorry …”

“Angel, its okay, no need to be sorry, now if you’ll excuse me, I really tired” she faked a yawn for good measure. ‘Please just let me inside so I can have a good cry and at least then I’ll able to face you in the morning’

“You’re tired? But it’s only seven thirty. Oh Cordy, I’m sorry! I had no idea. Is that why you wanted to cancel?” Angel asked, allowing himself to get his hopes up again.

“I didn’t cancel you did!” Cordy stated in an angry tone. No way was he blaming his little disaster on her. He was the one who had fled the lobby like a bat out of hell. She was only surprised he hadn’t used his vampiric speed to aid his getaway. Well at least that was something. A very small something though!

“Only because I thought that’s what you wanted. What was I supposed to think? You were in that bathroom for like ever. I was just about to come in and get you when you came out. Please tell me what’s going on?” Angel asked. Hell he was practically begging here.

“Nothing’s going on Angel, that’s the problem” Cordelia replied. How she wished he would leave so she could end this nightmare. She was so close to safety. Yet so far away as standing, blocking her way to that safety was a big hunk of manpire.

“Well, what do you want me to do then?” the confused vampire asked. This situation was getting worse by the second. He really needed her to help him out before he put his foot in his mouth as usual. How did things get this complicated? Simple answer, it was them.

“Do what you want Angel” Cordy said, moving forward. She lightly tried to push him backwards so she could actually get inside her door. Like that was going to move him. Good plan Cordy.

Angel started to move but in the wrong direction to where she wanted him to go. Now wasn’t that just typical. He was moving towards her. She didn’t know what to do. She started to back up but soon she was backed against the wall and had nowhere else to go. Angel was directly in front of her. His face was inches away from hers. He leaned in closing even that gap and kissed her, like he’d never kissed her before.

Oh god that felt good. She managed to wrap her arms around the back of his head, pulling him ever closer. Not that he could get much closer now. Her heart was beating at the frantic pace again but this time is was for the right reason and it felt really good, really, really good.

Angel on the other hand was thanking his lucky stars. Cordelia was actually kissing him back and hadn’t bitch slapped him into the middle of next week liked he’d half expected. She hadn’t given him one of her infamous tongue lashings either. Maybe that was because her tongue was otherwise engaged in his mouth at the moment. Which definitely wasn’t a bad thing. Why hadn’t he thought of his earlier when they were downstairs? Instead he had made an idiot of himself and had upset Cordy in the process. He would make up for it now though. Hang on a minute she was pulling back. Seemingly desperate to break their connection. Had she changed her mind?

“Cor?” Angel asked. His face was a picture of nervousness. He was really hoping she hadn’t changed her mind, that in fact she had something extremely important to say and it just couldn’t wait any longer and he knew Cordy, if she had something to say, she said it, it was one of things he loved about her, one of the many, many things.

“Need to breathe!” she managed. Gasping a little. At the look on his face, she broke out into a huge smile. He looked so cute but also like he could bolt at any moment. She needed to reassure him so she did. “Ready for round two?”

“Always” he replied. Now he felt foolish. Of course she needed to breathe. What was he thinking? Okay, truthfully he wasn’t thinking at all. Not passed the fact that he and Cordy were making out in the hallway, just liked he’d dreamed for so many nights. All alone in his suite, wishing she was there with him and now she was, well kind of. Granted, they were in the hallway and not in his room but that was only a minor detail, which was fixable.

She flipped him around so that now he was up against the wall. Okay that was unexpected. She leaned in. “My turn” she said before initiating another make out session. Not that he was complaining in the slightest. Oh no, absolutely no complaining coming from this direction.

After a few moments she broke away, locking eyes with him, trying hard to read his face. “Wanna come in?” she asked. Now it was her turn to feel nervous again, she wasn’t feeling like she was downstairs but she really needed him to answer her and fast.

“Sure” was his only reply as he was trying really hard to bite back the silly schoolgirl giggle he was sure was about to escape his mouth and how unsexy and embarrassing would that be? Get a grip moron.

She flashed him another smile, taking his hand in hers, she lead him inside. Closing the door behind them. Now that she had him in here just what was she going to do with him. She could think of a few things but maybe they weren’t the best ideas in the world. She had been the one who insisted on taking things slowly maybe that was what had given Angel the idea of taking her out on a proper date and just look how that had turned out. They hadn’t even made it out of the lobby.

It was no ones fault! Okay it was totally both their faults. She could make up her mind who was worse, him or her. They were perfect for each other. Anybody could see it. Fred had been rambling on about it for nearly a year now and hadn’t she let them know it when they had been caught kissing in the courtyard the other night and that was only a peck on the cheek. Cordy wondered what Fred would be doing if she could see them now, she’d probably be cart wheeling down the corridor shouting woo hoo at the top of her voice.

“So” Angel said. She hadn’t said a word since they had gotten inside. Was she waiting for him to start something, a conversation or maybe something else? One thing was for sure, he had to make a decision and fast. Before he convinced himself that this was the wrong thing to do.

“So” Cordy replied. This was so stupid. It was only Angel. She could talk to him, tell him how she was feeling. But just what exactly was she feeling apart from extremely frustrated at the dumbness that was them. “Want to try the kissing thing again?” Well didn’t that sound romantic? Maybe she could ask him if he want to suck face some more?

Angel grinned at her “You ready for round three then?” Okay that was kinda smooth but not smooth enough for his liking. Their hands were still linked so he used the opportunity to lead her towards the bed. He let her choose a spot where she wanted to sit and then sat down besides her. Right, now for the easy bit, the actual kissing. That part was by far his favourite part of the evening so far which wasn’t all that surprising considering it had consisted of them both running away like a couple of scared rabbits. How he wished they were doing something else that rabbits liked to do and he wasn’t thinking about eating carrots. Mind out of the gutter if you please. Thank you very much.

“I think I’m ready” Cordy stated. Okay, just which one of them was going to start because she was sure just staring at each other wasn’t going to get the job done! Take charge, if you want something done, do it yourself especially if the person you’re waiting to do that thing was called Angel. “Scratch that, I know I’m ready”. With that she moved forward to kiss him. Moments later they were both falling sideways, landing on the bed. Not the most comfy position but it would do! On second thought no it wouldn’t, the last thing she needed was Angel out of action with a bad back.

She had pulled back again. Surely she didn’t need to breathe already? She was grabbing at his shirt, just what was she trying to do?

“Not comfortable, thought we should move up the bed a little” Cordy suggested. He seemed to like that idea if the look on his face was everything to go by.

“I like your thinking Cor” Angel replied, as he began to shuffle up the bed, bringing Cordelia with him. “You wanna be on top?” What a gentleman.

“That sounds great” Cordy answered as she waited for him to lie down, once he was in position, she straggled him. Now finally they were getting somewhere. They didn’t want to go too far, maybe Angel could lose the shirt, that might be fun. That was her last thought before her world went black totally unexpectedly. Her unconscious form crashed down on top of Angel.
