Celebrity Duets
This is going to either be really entertaining, or a train wreck of epic proportions - which will also sort of be entertaining.
BUT LOOK LALA!!! Lucy Lawless is gonna be singing! Thompson, Lawless Do Duets for Fox

I caught the promo for this during the Hells Kitchen finale last night. We all know Lucy Lawless can sing (well, anyone that's watched Xena and lives close enough to Broadway knows she can sing). Not so sure about Lea Thompson.
Didn't Cheech Marin use to sing in all the old Cheech and Chong movies? I know he sang Born in East LA for the movie. I'm sure I'll tune in to see LL, not sure I'd actually watch the show otherwise.

Anyone watch last night?
I was shocked that Lea Thompson and Hal Sparks did as well as they did. I knew what to expect from Lucy Lawless and Alfonso Ribeiro but it was nice to see them perform anyway. Jai from Queer Eye did was outstanding. Cheech Marin was a little disappointing but I'm glad he made it to the next round. I was totally under whelmed by Chris Jericho but I think he should have stayed, the Gymnast wasn't any better, IMO.

I caught the tail end of it. Lucy Lawless was looking FIERCE. Whatever she has been doing, she needs to keep it up. And she looks MUCH better with her natural blonde.
I wasn't that surprised by Hal Sparks or Lea Thompson. Sparks had/has a band and Thompson has done Broadway. It was kind of strange, I thought, because all the "actors" all had some singing experience or Broadway. I think it would have been a lot more amusing to get someone in there with no musical skill at all and make them trained. I thought the gymnast should have been out too. I was underwelmed by Chris Jericho. He has a band, they are decent, he should have been decent too. But I will be watching the next episode. For now, its a nice rerun replacement.

I wasn't terribly impressed by Hal Sparks or Chris Jericho either one, but I thought Carly Patterson should have been first out the door. I also personally didn't care for Lea Thompson's voice. She's got a nice vibrato, but her voice seemed tinny and flat. My absolute fave was Jai Rodriguez, who I expected a lot from since he played Angel in Rent for something like 18 months, I think.
Overall I thought the show itself was too long. It's going to have to speed up the process to keep me watching.

So Angela, picking Jai to win? And you are right, he should be as great as he was. He has the Broadway backing and he put an album out like ages and ages ago. Or was trying. I am not sure if it hit shelves. Anyone?

As far as Jai goes, I only found out he was in Rent when I read an article about Celebrity Duets. I was happily suprised that he had such and amazing voice.
I was impressed by both Hal Sparks and Lea Thompson simply because I had no idea either one could sing. I do like Lea Thompson's voice though it was quite nice in the second number. Going forward, I think they're only going to be 1 hour long shows, right?

Livvie, if it were me I'd absolutely guarantee that Jai would win. And IMO he's the most talented. Of course, I'm a huge fan of musical theater, and I've always believed Broadway breeds the most talented singers in the world, bar none. I'd have to make a disclaimer here, though. My taste obviously does not equal the world or even the country's, else Bo Bice, Clay Aiken, and Chris Daughtry/Elliott Yamin would have won their respective seasons on AI. And John Stevens would never have made it to Hollywood at all.

This sounds like something I've seen here in the UK, but then there are so many assorted shows where random celebs (or "celebs" in most cases) sing songs.
Sounds like something I'd like to see though. |

I think Jai winning is a foregone conclusion, IMO. He outsang them all and unless he has a really horrible night with laryngitis or something, I can't see him losing. Of course, I suppose it's possible others will improve along the way but my money's still on Jai.

I'm all late...
Loved Jai, Alphonso, Lucy, and Hal. That's my top four right there, with Cheech pulling up the rear. Jai for the win, and Lucy's gonna be the only girl in the top five, and she might make it to the top three. Lea Thompson makes babies cry. On a related note, this crap needs to stay at an hour. I kept switching to other shows.
