DB Thank-You Ad Copy Ideas Go HERE
PF made the point that test copy and other ideas for the DB ad are getting lost in the increasingly serpentine main ad thread, so let's have a place that's just for text.
Kas already has gotten a photo deal lined up, so don't worry about that here. Just concentrate on what you want the ad to say, and how. Remember that ST is pretty much just hosting this whole thing and making certain resources available for campaign use. It's up to the DB fans to keep the ball rolling and make the command decisions, so post your (or someone else's) ideas, and see what takes shape!

OK - I'll have a go. Pull apart/ignore at will.
-------------- "He's got a kind of power and a kind of scintillating burning quality in his eyes; he's got a spirit of play in him..." -- Sean Astin, Lord of the Rings And we, your fans, couldn't agree more. We have watched this power and spirit lead to unforgettable performances over the years. Thank you David for all the memories and we look forward to seeing where your path will lead next. ---------------- Too flowery? No good? Last edited by Kas; 03-20-2004 at 06:12 PM. |

Not too flowery at all, imo. And only one quote, definitely.
"He's got a kind of power and a kind of scintillating burning quality in his eyes; he's got a spirit of play in him..." -- Sean Astin, Lord of the Rings And we, your fans, couldn't agree more. Over the years we have watched this power and spirit lead to unforgettable performances... (and...? just for the rhthym) Thank you David for all the memories and we look forward to seeing where your path will lead us next. ----------------- Added in 'us' to will lead next. As in, 'we will follow your career' without needing to say it. ETA: Just saw Becky's contribution - love the simplicity of that one too. Oh, choices, choices. |

I think this is a great idea, and I'm all for it.
I like the simple copy, for the most part, although I do get a bit of a tingle with the quotes aligned with "The Man", "The Actor", and "The Star". That was nice.

Just shuffling things around:
The Star "He's like a rugged old-fashioned movie star- If this was the 1950's, he might have changed his name to Rock" -- Marcia Shulman, 20th Century Fox Executive The Actor "He's got a kind of power and a kind of scintillating burning quality in his eyes; he's got a spirit of play in him..." -- Sean Astin, Lord of the Rings The Man We have watched this power and spirit lead to unforgettable performances over the years. Thank you, David, for all the memories and we look forward to seeing where your path will lead next. I feel like we should add something more to the bottom part, although I really like it.

Second, I like the Star, Man ECT set up and agree that it needs a bit more at the end. Just some quick thoughts... Okay one take at restructuring really fast since I'm here: We have watched David's strength and spirit create unforgettable performances over the years. Thinking since it's a Thank You why not use the man's name rather than calling him a man at least. LOL. And too bad we probably can't call him charasimatic without creating more stupid fandom wars.

I like the Astin quote a lot, but I'd suggest identifying him as "actor and director" rather than with a ref to LoTR. Everybody knows Astin was in LoTR, and to imply that that's how he knows DB might come off as a little disingenuous. And personally I'd rather show the Astin-as-director connection in the context of this quote. (Hey, someone who's directed DB thinks he's All Dat!)

I'm a little hesitant about the quotes myself. Sean worked with him on one episode and he doesn't have the cachet yet as a director or star.
Nor does the casting agent make me think of him. It's more about his appeaerance and not his acting ability. Yeah it's all part of the same package but he may want to do 180 or go indie for awhile. I don't want to hint that he's just a throwback or something. I think I would prefer something short and sweet from us but with minimal "Angel" references. Something more like Damn Skippy's about what we think of him. BTW, I like that last one of him that Kas just scanned. Not to "Angel-y" and it looks recent.

Hi guys, would just like to say that I think this add is a beautiful thought.
ETA I have retracted my text ideas as I would like to keep them for myself. I'd be gratefull if they weren't taken into consideration, I have my own personal plans for them. Good luck with your efforts, as a fan of Angel and DB i would like to extend my appreciation to all those involved in this campaign. I know David will be thrilled with your final decision. haha I see a nice new shinny thread - COOLIES what about a JW quote - do we have that JW quotes Love the SA one but I would pref. to use a quote (if we use one ) to be it from a Ats more involved person.
