Question For Computer Saavy Folks

Okay, I'm trying to upload a new avatar from my computer to here, and it just freezes half way. The files not too big, it's 100x100, blah blah blah, yada yada yada, so it shouldn't be that.

Could there be a problem with my b/f's computer? I've tried to upload stuff to Photobucket as well, but it won't even do that.

Penny? Emma? Florrie? Buehler? Anyone?

Well, I can say that the board software won't allow direct uploads from your computer; custom avatars have to be Web-linked. If it's not uploading to Photobucket, there may be a problem on their end. If you're on dialup, you might have a slow connection that's timing out before the upload is complete.

Depending on what you're using to upload, you may need to clear your browser cache to see the file correctly; if it failed once, you may be getting a cached page.

I'm about to offer some probably useless advice but have you tried deleting your temporary internet files. I know sometimes when I'm having trouble with different things, especially saving pics and stuff, once I delete the temporary internet files it usually helps, especially if it's been awhile since you last did it. Hope you're able to fix it.

I was wondering about this because I know when asked about this before you've mentioned that the avatars have to be Web-linked but when changing my avatar today I noticed under the box that says Enter Avatar URL there is now a box that says Upload an Avatar From Your Computer. I just figured it was something newly available.

Thank you both for your help. We went ahead and restored the computer to an eariler date, and it cleared the problem right up. Something must have gone wonky between the 1st and the 16th.

Well, you're not supposed to be able to, because I disallowed it deliberately as an antiviral measure -- so I guess I'm gonna have to fix that!
