So glad I'm not the only one who thought this. In fact, I was hard-pressed to find anything likeable about that family. Sure they had their funny moments, but I just don't think there was enough characterization to justify the general childishness. Back to Dil - my gosh, he was a jerk! Then to just suddenly go, "yeah, I don't like my girlfriend and I'm going to leave her in the woods"? Where did that come from?! The same goes for the whole family; I don't think there was enough builidng up to it. Its as if they just naturally do the most despicable thing they could think of at any moment. Speaking of despicable, I have to say I am happy Dil married his slack-jawed quasi-sister because I couldn't stand to think of him being with Katherine. Like somebody pointed out, I can't see how her flaws trumped his general whinning and childishness. But I have to admit: the ending actually put me in a bad mood. Charisma was good in it. The best, in fact; everybody else seemed characatures of whom they were playing. Though I have to admit near the end it seemed they wrote her character quite one-dimensional to fit the plot. She was interesting at the beginning but they had to make it "okay" to dump her off at some dank building in the woods, which they failed to do anyway, and it was very obvious. Nicky was second (yes, probably a bias, but we did get more of these characters than the others); I just think he was a bit ... tense at times. He did the asshole thing very well and I have to admit I was genuinely creeped out by the shower-scene. Over all it was a predicatable story about despicable people. But not, to me at least, "fun-despicable" like Seinfeld or Arrested Development. And, as always, the woman who held onto luuuurve her whole life, barely bothered to get a life, and was so boring anybody could walk right through her was "rewarded" for it while the smart career woman was punished.

I thought Charisma did a good job and her character was not at all nasty or unlikeable. I was surprized when I saw where things were going with Dill. This guy never realized he liked the girl next door as much as he did? All of a sudden he sees this? Why did he bring Catherine there if he did not really care to be with this woman at all? He was not affectionate with her that was obvious, except for the sex of course. I agree some of the cloths they put on C.C. were really not flattering. I don't think Canary yellow is her color either. Anyway, I think a better twist would of been to see Catherine and N.B. character some how end up being together since they were alot more alike. She did fit into that family, it was Dill who was the odd man out. There was no reason for the family to dislike Catherine she was one of them. The writers just tried to make her seem silly at the end with the diamonds, and the bear, but she was no more odd than Gil, thats for sure.

I went into the movie expecting Katherine to be a bitch, and for Dil to fall in love with a "nice girl" instead. It almost made no sense to make Katherine as likeable as they did considering the plot they were going for. (Guy leaves current, pushy girlfriend for sweet hometown girl whose specialness he just noticed.) It just ended up making Dil look like a jerk. Really, I don't think I was supposed to want Katherine to hit Dil in their last scene, but that's what I wanted. I just wanted her to lay him out.
It's interesting that they went against what was expected, I guess. It just made me really dislike the hero for treating his current girlfriend the way he did. Nobody said he had to stay with her. But, apparantly, I'm supposed to think it's okay for him to act like an ass towards her because he found "true love" with someone else.

Well call me confused, because I liked Catherine much more than I liked most of the Gilbert family. She was nice, pleasant to everyone and nothing but loving and supportive towards Dil. Okay, he's a morning person and she isn't, but so what?
Was the marshmallow incident supposed to signify that she was a bitch? Personally, I can't blame her for being suspicious - After the 'golden shower incident' I was pretty suspicious too. I kept expecting to see Dil bite into a bug. Tell me again why we were supposed to hate her and root for Dil to end up with that mouseburger? Sure she was a little bitchy towards the end, but 1) I'd be more concerned about being out $100,000 than my boyfriend winning a cup; and 2) who is at their best when they're blindsided, humiliated and dumped? The whole family was weird and not in a good way. The whole thing with the daughter not telling her father she was pregnant; the father killing all the childrens' pets; and the mother at the end openly gloating that the bride's parents were dead were all very creepy. Don't get me started on Dil leaving Catherine alone in the woods and that 'joke' he made about the bear getting angry. Catherine, you dodged a bullet! Last edited by JoJo; 09-11-2006 at 11:06 PM. |

I am happy to see that other people felt the same way as i did about CC's character. i remember thinking to myself, "I think i am supposed to dislike her, but she is not dislikeable enough. I like her."

I was referring to Gilhole sticking Dilhole's hand into warm water to make him wet the bed. After that, I wouldn't have trusted him, ever.

What do you mean? Are you saying the file is corrupted? I know someone else downloaded part 1 and was able to watch it.
