I liked it... not the best movie but I can relate to all the family dynamics. I can relate to this because I have a lot of brothers, sister, and close cousins that we can get competive when games are played.
One of my favorite scene is the fighting over Monopoly because that happens often in my family, though not that violent. One scene I was hoping for is when Gil (Nicky) snuck into the shower and wished it was Katherine (Charisma) in the shower. BTW: Still love the Charisma cleavage...

Just finished watching it over here on the west coast. I was surprised. It was entertaining. My husband enjoyed it though he did say and I quote "And here comes Katharine, naked, riding the bear!" during the April/Dil kissing scene. So I think he was just in it for the miles of cleavage.
My mom watched it with us and she isn't a CC fan. Not that she hates her but she was objective in it. She thought Dil was an a-hole. My mother, who never curses, called him that. The whole movie she couldn't understand how Dil was going to leave Katharine because she was so nice and supportive. I agree with her. I was expecting Katharine to be full on b*tch here. Hell on wheels. She wasn't. She just wanted Dil to realize and see the fantastic person she saw. We all got a huge kick out of NB as Gil though. Fave part, after the shooting where he goes "Is there a lot of blood?" in that voice of his. I cracked up for some reason. I thought it was cute. Not the worst movie I have ever seen. If I have to pick between this and the two Lifetime movies, this one wins the vote every time. And was it just me or did they say son of b*tch like a ton of times? And the thought of Terry Bradshaw taking Viagra to get his hydraulics or whatever going...yeah...that is going to cause the nightmares.

The Monopoly scene was great for two reasons, 1 - it was ruthless ad everyone was sniping at each other, that's the way Monopoly is supposed to be played 2 - I used to hide money, under the board all the time. It gives your opponents a false sense of security.

I'm in with those who are wondering what was so deadly unlikeable about Katherine. The fact that the dialog included several other characters stating how much they didn't like Katherine was to me a sign that even the writers didn't quite believe it.
The real asshole here was Dil, definitely. What kind of SOB not only leaves his SO in the woods with a bear, but dumps that SO outside a restaurant filled with his family members? Leaving her to go back to his parents' house to pack her things and leave alone? Seriously, how fucked up is that? Add in the incredibly mean-spirited moment when Dil and April, right after their swaydoe-adorable river-rock-promise-ring moment, yuk it up about how much the bear must have hated the low-carb food in Katherine's backpack, and you have a perfect candidate for a public dumping in the Stratosphere tower. The movie itself did have its moments. The sibling rivalry was realistic, especially the Monopoly game as someone else has pointed out. Dil really should have known better than to rely on his own memory of "family trivia," too. NB and Terry Bradshaw both were a riot. I wish CC had had more funny lines and moments -- or just more lines and moments, period. But the moral seems, once again, to be, "Why be with a woman who challenges you when you can be with one who idolizes you?" Thank you, next please.

I agree on not buying it, I found it totally odd when Gil tells April that he didn’t like Katherine.

yes, why do they insist on putting CC in fugly outfits, none of them suited her, but they showed a heck of a lot of cleavage.
and why would these people dislike Katherine. they are all over-achievers. heck even dil went to law school and graduated so he had to be driven at some point.gil is a congressman. and Katherine was really nice to all of the family, and was the only one who wanted to talk about lil's child. i really don't get why "they didn't like her" |

Which makes me envision a spinoff series devoted to Katherine and her search for true love, professional fulfillment, and a really good day spa.

Like many of you, I hated the way Katherine was treated, so much that I really couldn't enjoy the movie. But this was, IMO, the most professional of CC's major movies of late, and I'm glad she got the part. Hopefully it will lead to bigger and better things.
(and there was a YOOOOGE part of me that loved seeing Xander and Cordy together. Heh.)

The way Katherine ad Dil turned out explained why I wondered why he was miscast. When I first saw the promo, I felt that CC's presence was to strong for this guy. So, that's why Dil and April were a match (Melody Wilkes and Ashley versus Scarlett). I would have never expected Katherine to be attracted to Dil. So, I was mad at the end. It was crummy how he broke up with Katherine, with the family and April inside. Yuk!

Yes, they did make it clear. Still didn't keep me from bitching about it. It also explained the choice of actor. |
