Meanwhile I'm 28 years old and I'd pick Richard Dean Anderson, Ryan O'Neil and Tom Selleck (yummy) over DB and JM anyday. Go figure.

*stares at icon.* Sorry, what were we talking about again? Got a little distracted. So Penny, whats so special about this Ryan O'Neal guy that means it'll get news items? I don't really know much about him.

As for how it will all work out, I think that will depend on why the writers are introducing this storyline. If they are just doing it to create more friction between Kate and her father, then I'm not as hopeful. If, however, they are doing it to flesh out the Ryan O'Neal character, then it could be very very good and very very funny. I can see Serena driving him nuts.

Oooookay. The short version:
Ryan O'Neal went from being a huge soap star in the '60s (Peyton Place) to being a huge movie star in the '70s and into the '80s (Love Story -- for which he received an Oscar nomination -- What's Up, Doc?, Paper Moon, Barry Lyndon, The Main Event, etc.). He also did series work in the '90s. He's almost as famous for his personal life as for his body of work, so the gossips love him. You may know him as the father of Tatum O'Neal (and former father-in-law of John McEnroe), as well as of Farrah Fawcett's son. CC herself mentioned in an interview for her first MM appearance that RoN is "an icon" and she was "in awe." Certainly he's a big drawing card for NBC of the same kind and level as James Caan in Las Vegas. If he gets a TV love interest, it will be news.

Hmm, I don't think I've seen any of those other things he's been in, which is why he wasn;t familer to me.
Thanks for the break down guys, it explains a lot.

RE
I don't know about how much news a romantic interest would make, even for someone like Ryan O'Neil, when the show itself is buzzless. This isn't an attack on the quality of the show, it's definitely well respected, but besides maybe an ET interview, I don't see it getting much coverage. But I think it really depends on how Miss Match is handled by NBC when it returns, if they sort of sweep it under the rug on the way to cancellation, no one is going to cover anything involving it, because no one is watching. But if NBC actually tries to relaunch the show appropriately, they might give it the hard sell, and include this business of Ryan O'Neil getting an onscreen love ineterest much younger than him.
Still the fact that Miss Match (and Darren Star of all producers) is looking for excuses to keep bringing Charisma back is a GREAT thing. She's definitely going places. |

This is from tvtome.com, so take it with a grain of salt, but apparently JoBeth Williams will return (as Kate's mom, if it's true) in Charisma's 4th Miss Match episode.

Miss Match is buzzless? Really? Could have sworn that I've read several interviews about the show, especially with it's Golden Globe nomination. Guess there are different definitions of buzz.
