Eliza Dushku Pilot

Eliza Dushku tries again with a comedy pilot this time, opposite Damon Wayans.

I wonder if she can do comedy? The only two comedies I saw her in, she pretty much played the exact same character she always does.

Judging by her performance on Big Bang Theory, the answer is no.

That was painful.

And this show, based on Colin Cowherd, who is unfunny himself, promises to be horrible.

When has a sitcom based on a real person ever been funny? Seinfeld, maybe?

The only thing I've seen her in besides Buffy was that cheerleading movie, and I was not at all impressed with her performance. Her voice and her demeanor don't really change, so to me it just looks like Faith putting on an act.

I've seen her in a lot of things and you hit it right on the head. She is Faith in everything she has ever done. I almost think she doesn't act. She just reads lines. She is always Eliza, never the character.

I'm floored she landed ANOTHER pilot. I guess TNT didn't pick up her other one then?

I thought Dave's World was great, that was based on Dave Barry.

That's pretty much what I was getting at. She's Faith in everything I've seen her in, including Tru Calling. I actually thought of a third comedy I've seen her in, Bring it On, The Other Guy and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, in all three movies she played Faith or a variation of Faith.

She plays the part people cast her to play - it's called "type casting". It didn't do Cary Grant's career any harm!

("Bring it On" was the cheerleader movie by the way)

Well ED ain't Cary Grant. Plus, Cary Grant played against type (the image most people associate with him) several times. Two of those times, he got Best Actor Oscar nominations.

I'm a fan.

All that being said, you never know. I've seen actors I never thought would do well in particular roles turn out to be awesome in those parts.

Cary Grant was a part in and of himself. When told people "want to be like Cary Grant", Grant replied, "so would I".

He was just Archibald Leach, after all.

And you're right about people sometimes being surprising in roles. Heath Ledger as the Joker, for example.

But I don't think that's going to be the case with Eliza in re: this part.

I believe that in ED's case it's called limited acting range. Look at her pre-Faith movie, Bye Bye Love, basically the same character as Faith, just without the leather fetish. Even True Lies to a certain extent could easily be a much younger less damaged Faith.

Now, I suppose one could argue that I see Faith in those movies b/c I know ED as Faith but I saw those movies first and I doubt her entire career is/was typecast based on her role as Arnold's rebellious teen daughter in True Lies. YMMV but I have yet to see her do anything that leads me to believe she is capable of more.

Well I'm going to disagree with you, and leave it at that.

THIS.

How does she keep getting starring roles?
