John Carter
I seem to remember some old board discussion of John Carter of Mars.
Penny, wasn't it a favorite of yours? Anyway, we had some casting wishes when it was just a twinkle in our eyes before the movie actually went forward into production. It would be nice to read that old thread, but I couldn't find it. Since the movie is coming out next month, though, I figure this is a good place for a new thread on the movie. I haven't read the book, but I'll still be there opening weekend to watch and have fun. I like Taylor Kitsch, and I like the trailers I've seen so far. What say the rest of you?

Wow, I'm really, really late to this thread. I'll keep it short: Saw it, loved it. I thought it was a great adaptation of (big chunks of) A Princess of Mars, and that the judicious changes made for the format actually made it better. They even preserved an awesome moment of physical comedy Burroughs wrote into the original book, and did it justice.
I did have a list of casting demands for this movie - they didn't listen, if you can imagine - but overall I thought the actors did well. Willem Dafoe in particular was fantastic (and completely unrecognizable) as Tars Tarkas. Wonderful final moment, and making young "Ned" Burroughs an onscreen character (and Carter's nephew from the book) was a masterstroke. Did anyone else see this in IMAX 3D?
