Futon Critic Buzz on UPN pilots

http://www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/go...wswire&id=6563

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- With the upfronts just one week away, pilot "buzz" has kicked into high gear as the vague picture of the broadcast networks' new 2004-05 series is starting to come into focus.

Here's a round-up of how each pilot is faring, according to various reports:

UPN

COMEDIES - Not surprisingly the "One on One" spin-off "Splitting Hairs" and Jenny McCarthy's "The Bad Girl's Guide" lead the netlet's comedy buzz, leaving behind "Humor Me," "Me, Me, Me," "Play Nice" and "Second Time Around" as well as the untitled Soluna project for the time being.

Ugh. That doesn't bode well. Isn't there someone we can call or e-mail...or maybe blackmail? Jenny McCarthy over Charisma? Pfft. Puh-lease.

Thanks for the link.

That's not good news, is it? However, they didn't mention which if UPN's sitcoms had been tested yet, so maybe Playing Nice will test really well and get picked up.

I don't know if it's bad news or not, I was under the impression that UPN was looking to pick up several sitcoms (3 or 4) these two just happen to be leading the pack. It's understandable, one is a spin-off and the other for reasons I still can't figure out has Jenny McCarthy.

Yeah. Our slogan: We got Angel cancelled, we'll take your network next.

Well, if they're looking to fill up another night with comedies, they'd need that many anyway.

She tests well with the teenage horndog demographic UPN wants to attract. OTOH, she has no talent at all, so UPN needs to have something ready for mid-season.

God I love that slogan! I've always felt it was somewhat true.

Well I'm hoping that with all the press that CC is getting of late that they'll give Play Nice a chance, and if not UPN, maybe another network.

It's beyond me why UPN thinks that a Jenny McCarthy sitcom will do well, she didn't have the best of luck in her past two sitcoms, the first on NBC tanked and then her second pilot wasn't even picked up. The last thing I enjoyed her in was "Singled Out" and that's been awhile ago.

I don't post very often, I'm a serial lurker, but I saw this in Variety. And Play Nice along with the drama Kevin Hill was mentioned as having good buzz:

UPN's Charisma Carpenter laffer, from Paramount and the Littlefield Co., is said to have screened particularly well. Skein's about a brother/sister odd couple.

Thanks so much mmartine! Good news is always welcome - and the fact that the sitcom tested well can only be good news. Even if it isn't picked up by UPN, perhaps some other network will grab it, and it just enhances CC's status as a likeable actress who any network would do well to hire!

Very good. Now, let the brass at UPN agree. That way, things won't have to get... unpleasant.

ST is really turning into the Sopranos of the fandom, isn't it?
