Stranger Things 10th Anniversary, 1999-2009

I've been a Stranger for 9 years, and it's a good thing to be. You all are erudite and intelligent, funny, and very caring friends. I think it's what an internet community should be. I've fallen in and out of other groups, but I'm always a Stranger.

Of course, writing that above makes me feel a little Cheers'y... as if this is the place where everybody knows your name. Because there are only 15 (or was that just 5?) of us.

Someone want to brush off that bit of ST history? Where did that get started anyway?


And I'm bringin' the cactaur!


PS: Don't forget the special Stranger fonts and the Cafe Press shop. Maybe we could have a 10th anniversary special thingy there. With our creative might, it would be easy.

Honestly, I don't know where it started - possibly at the Angel's Soul Spoiler Board - but it was basically a brush-off, as in "Oh, who cares what the C/A fans think? There are only like, five of them anyway." At least that's how I remember it. Can anyone add details?

I was just thinking about doing a 10th-anniversary design - it's long past time we had a black T-shirt available. Anybody want to take a crack at it? We can have more than one....

And it's way too obvious to even suggest a ficathon, but hey, the annual Halloween thang could double as an anniversary bash (the board actually opened in October, if memory serves).

That's how I remember it as well. The only thing I might add is that the person who said it was IIRC a well-known C/A hater who "loved" Cordy before the C/Aers "made" her hate Cordy, and was also one of the prominent "Cordy and Angel are brother and sister! It's like incest!" proponents. Baiting C/Aers was one of her primary means of entertainment, or so it seemed.

Of course, baiting him/her and others was a prominent means of entertainment for some of the people around here, so I guess the fun goes both ways. Florrie used to dive right in, and so did Kar I think. I did once, and that's what indirectly lead me here.

Ahhh, the 'ship wars. Those were the days...

I didn't discover this site until early 2006/Late 2005. So, I've only been "around" (as in...lurking) for about 2-3 years. I have to say, I am glad that the site is finally getting updated. I mostly don't like to read the fanfic off the boards as a personal rule because there's not a very convenient/easy way to hop from one chapter to the next. There's also not a very easy/convenient way to figure out if I'm at the very latest chapter or not (unless it's like "Cordy & Angel are Awesome 12/12" or something :P).

I wish I was here from the beginning, that is for sure. Over my time here, I have really come to think of ST as my fandom home, someplace where I feel safe and can talk to like minded, intelligent people. Plus, I've made some incredible online friends here so thank you, to everyone who helped get ST to 10 years. Here's to 10 more.

What I would love, being a newb, is some kind of nostaglia thread or explaining the inside jokes thread or something along those lines. I love just reading about what happened before. Some of you have really great (and hilarious) stories.

LOL-- thinking about some of that drama STILL makes me laugh. One good thing about the Strangers is that most of us never took ourselves too seriously.

I wish I could remember my exact start date (since the board crash erased that exact information along with my record for most posts!)- but I think it was the summer of 2001 when I joined......so while I'm not original (and have come and gone)-- I like to think I was around in the early days. I definitely say there is NO board out there quite like Stranger Things!!

I can't place my start date by chronological time, but I can place it pretty well by show time. I think it was during the Darla arc in season 2; I know that was when I started posting at ASSB, and I'm fairly certain that was when Wren linked me up with this place. Or with wherever this place was at the time.

You are right about this board being one of a kind--and the best of its kind.
