Dude, a Thor movie would be AWESOME. Better yet, make an Avengers movie. Then you get Thor and Captain America and Iron Man, plus gifts with purchase like Hawkeye and the Scarlet Witch.

I actually disagree with this. I think the real tool is Joe Quesada.

Stark, on the other hand, is currently cast as the guy that does the dirty work. The scenario they built with the Civil War, I actually think it turned out the only way it could, giving the relative level of realism they were shooting for.

The "Iron Man: Director of Shield" title is actually really good right now.

Well. I'm honestly biased against Iron Man because of events in Civil War. Let me break it down. I'm a huge Spider-Man fan, so I felt he betrayed Peter. I'm a huge Captain America fan and he spent all that time fighting Cap. But most importantly of all, Thor is my favorite comic book character EVER and he went along with Pym and Richards and cloned the God of Thunder with out his permission.

Needless to say, seeing the real Thor smack him down like a bitch was high on the satisfaction meter.

Now on the other hand, I really like Iron Man in the Ultimates universe. So it's not the character of Tony Stark that necessarily bugs me, it's the events that happened in Civil War.

I definately agree with you about Quesada though.

Like I said, he does the dirty work. To me, he's the Batman of the Marvel Universe (OMACs, anyone? The profiles used a few years ago by a villain to target each JLA member?)

Spider-Man and Captain America both have to remain above the moral fray, to be the paragons of the Marvel Universe (Spidey) and the USA (Cap). Neither of them are allowed to walk in moral shades of gray. Stark, on the other hand, was an arms dealer. He's a futurist, always planning for any eventuality. He's the one that is able to head SHIELD, ordering assassinations and men to their death when necessary. Reed Richards lives too much in an ivory tower. Stark is hard core real world to me, while trying really hard to maintain a moral center (and you're right, not always succeeding). To me, he's a far more complex character than Cap ever hoped to be.

And don't get me started on what they've done to Spider-Man....that's just wrong.

I've almost given up reading amazing for what your referring to.

I would like to comment that Stark is a much more complex character than Cap, and I like it that way. As you said, Cap is a black and white, good vs. evil old fashioned super hero. My grandpa read Captain America. There's still a little boy part of me that wants a hero to look up to like that. I think there is a part of this country that needs heroes like Cap.

I was barely phased by his death. I could see the writing on the wall. Marvel wants to make their world more realistic, more dark and gritty, and heroes like Cap don't fit into that. In a way, I'm glad they killed Steve Rogers off. With the way Marvel is playing fast and loose with their heroes' characterizations, a "darker, grittier Cap" is probably just around the corner.

By the way, I checked it out, and evidently a Thor and Cap movie are both slated for release in 09. Assuming they don't go the way of Wonder Woman, sounds like 09 will be a great movie year for me. Now, if only they skip the inevitable Red Skull storyline for Cap, maybe use the Serpent Society, and include Cap's on-again-off-again girlfriend Diamondback, my favorite leggy brunette actress could snag a nice super hero/villain role. I think she's perfect.

What is it with comic artist and women's boobs? Seriously, those things could smother a person. I just don't get it, maybe something a little bit more realistic...can we stop at D cups? Do they always have to look like Dolly Parton?

Yeah. A lot of artists in the early nineties seemed to seem comic books as another tool for onanism. Way to consolidate your comic buying with your porn buying.

And speaking of exaggerated anatomy, check out this picture of a body builder if his body was designed by comics artist Rob Liefeld:

I laughed at that.

Ok, I give. What have they done to Spidey?

Well, I don't know all of the whys and what fors, but basically what it boils down to is that Aunt May was on the verge of dying, and Mafisto told Peter that he could spare Aunt May's life, but it would cost him Mary Jane. Peter took the deal, so his and MJ's marriage has been erased like it never even happened. Or something like that.

Guys, help me out here.

That's basically the gist. Peter and Mary Jane's marriage has always been my favorite comic book romance/relationship. Don't get me wrong, Spidey's books have always been best when Peter was miserable and stressed from his non-hero life, but I seriously am not happy about stripping him of Mary Jane. I'm so used to them being married with her supporting him and enabling him to be a hero despite many and varied obstacles that I'm not sure I can stomach what I feel is a thinly disguised retcon. It feels as wrong to me as Angel felt with Cordy gone...

I should point out that this was also MJs decision, Peter didn't just up and decide to give her up on his own. It also is worth mentioning that in this new version of the book, Spidey has met up with a red haired costumed vigilante that he suspects is MJ.

Not even to mention that in one major story arc, Stark's central nervous system is slowly being destroyed by the suit itself.

I really hope that 1) the movie is excellent, 2) it spawns at least a couple of sequels, and 3) they really let RDJ loose on the more driven, Howard Hughes-esque aspects of the character. (The trailers currently available make me think they're going to hit on #3 at least a little bit.) I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say this franchise has the potential to reset the bar for superhero movies, if not all comic adaptations.

Okay, I know there are people here besides me who have seen this.

My review: OMFG. Everything you've heard is true. RDJ really is all that and a bag of chips. (Plus totally doable, and I say that as someone who's never really thought of him that way before.) Best meeting of actor and role since, well, since Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones, and you'll get to see that trailer too.

I've said to a few different people that Downey had the opportunity to raise the superhero bar with this one. I am telling you now, he slaps the bar down, breaks it in half -- with his teeth -- replaces it with a 12-foot concrete wall strung with razor wire, and goes, "There. Get over that, Ed Norton. You little bitch."

Loved the various nods to canon -- or at least the original canon -- throughout. Terrence Howard is ideally cast as Rhodey. Jeff Bridges is incredible, as always. And make sure you stay until the credits are over!

I went to see it Friday night with my sister. We both agreed it was the best movie we'd seen in a long while. Downey totally owned the role and, really, the movie given how he was present in just about every scene. He was fantastic, and the movie itself was smart, so kudos should also go out to Jon Favreau. The only thing I didn't like was Gwyneth Paltrow, but I always hate her so I went in knowing I'd have to grit my teeth when she was on screen. Still, a great movie.

I had never read the comics so I didn't really know anything about Iron Man before seeing the movie, but I'll take your word for it. But we left during the credits!!!! (I've since found out what I missed, but still - boo for me!)

The preview for Indiana Jones looked good, but the preview for The Dark Knight (which was mostly Heath Ledger) looked GREAT! I'm pretty psyched for both of those later this summer.
