Boston Marathon bombing

Two detonated near finish line, one nearJFK library and a fourth that was found and defused.

No solid numbers on casualties yet. Whole country is on lockdown.

JFK fire was unrelated, haven't heard an update on the non detonated bomb. Last I heard, 2 dead and 22 severely injured. ABC is saying around 80 people being treated.

This is very tragic, I hope the injured make a speedy recovery. My heart breaks for the 2 dead and the ones who lost limbs.

Local news is saying 98 injured, including a 3 year-old, and 2 dead, one only eight. There also saying it'll be a miracle if more don't die overnight. Boston PD is searching a parking garage next to Mass General, one of the hospitals the injured were taken to. There's also a story going around that one of the unexploded IEDs was under the bleachers where some of the Newtown survivors were watching the finish line. Really nuts down there right now.

ETA: Police are in Brigham and Women's talking to a "person of interest" according to Fox 25 in Boston.

Such good, fast police work. I hope this leads them to a quick arrest.

Police keep saying that person of interest isn't actually a suspect, and it's more than one person. The death toll rises to 3, with the Boston Globe reporting an updated injured count of 125.

I keep going back to that Mr Rogers quote I find so comforting:

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

The Mr. Rogers quote and Patton Oswalt's FB post are both amazing and give me hope.

I heard this morning 3 dead (one an 8 year old boy, another a 25-30 year old woman), 20+ in critical condition and 140 injured...I think.

New report says there were no unexploded devices, so just the two bombs that went off.

Doctors at MassGen and B&W are saying current patients are all stable and should make it. Could have been a lot worse, so there's that small comfort.

Yes! And all of the amazing courage and kindness. Did y'all see the Bruins fans sing the Star Spangled Banner? I cried my heart out.

They got the second guy, took him alive. Bostonians have to be glad it's over with a chance for answers.

I tracked scanners all day via reddit and those LEOs had their shit together. So impressive how organized they were. And fearless. I can't imagine the stress they were under. Can you imagine the bar scene in Boston tonight? LOL

They really did do a terrific job. A lot of them had had only 2-3 hours a day off before they had to be right back at it, and the last 20 hours or so was under maximum "life-or-death, bombs and guns" threat stress. To live through that, then think you were done only to hear you were back on 'cause someone found the guy so now you have to wind back up...

Can't imagine it, and then they still got the job done. They deserved the ovations Watertown residents were giving them.

It was nuts if you go by the local news coverage. Lots of stress relief everywhere.
