Y'all be gentle. I just came out of the Twilight closet within the last few weeks. It's a difficult step to take, but I have at least admitted I have a problem.
Penny, I'd say they're like a crossover between High School Musical and the first three seasons of BtVS, specifically the B/A romance. Only a whole lot more emo. But if you like that sort of thing, they're not so bad. There are Mack-truck-sized plot holes every now and again, and Bella can occasionally become painfully MarySueish, but for a YA melodrama/angsty series, it's really and truly not that bad. Or so I tell myself as I wait impatiently for Breaking Dawn to be released... (And I should say that while I am waiting impatiently, I will probably wait until a regular hour of the day, and I've never been to a Twilight Prom.) As to the movie, I was okay with the casting until I saw the trailers. RP is a hottie, no doubt, but he doesn't *sound* like Edward should sound to me. Too breathy and emo. But I'll give him the benefit until I see him in action. I just hope I can get past the Cedric Diggory-ness of him.

Well DUH. You gotta know neither of our two halves of the brain would have been inhabiting the closet alone. LOL.
I reread the first book yesterday, and I'm almost through the second. Now whether or not to read the third (which I didn't care for overmuch) before next weekend...

I say give it a good skimming and call it good......you have to leave yourself time to find a wedding dress for your local midnight release of the book!! Priorities!!

Okay....was I the only who thought that Breaking Dawn was just horrible?
(And I don't count disappointed fangirls who already hated SMeyer because they didn't get their way.)

The Twilight series is my first ever book that i've read outside of school..sad i know..i was introduced to it by my cousin and found myself quiet intrigued by it, to the point where i finished reading all three books in two months (normally, it takes weeks for me to read a 100 pg book).
Anyhu, initially when i heard there was going to be a movie I was excited until I found out who was being cast. I kinda lost all interest from there and swore I would never watch the movie, but i know that when the movie does come out I shall be joining my sis and cousin in the excitement of it all. Most recently, I "accidently" came across another vampire novel, Hamilton's "Anita Blake" series, which far outweighs Meyer's Twilight series. What amazes me is the time around which Hamilton wrote the charater of a woman and how it wasn't accepted at the time. Times have changed now and the character might be a little more accepted now. I'm already on the third one and plan on finishing the whole series by the end of summer..(yes, all twelve of them). S.N. I'd love it if someone made this series into a movie.

Anita Blake? Seriously? Wow...I tried one of those and thought it was about the worst thing I'd ever read. 'Course that was before I read BD, but I still think it might take the cake.

The Anita Blake books actually started off pretty interesting. It had way less sex/men and a lot more to do with her job as Executioner in the first few books in the series.
Somewhere in the middle of the series, she went off the rails of the crazy train and Anita turned into the sex bomb that every man, supernatural and otherwise, wanted beyond the capacity for rational thought. And her abilities went off the deep end into unbelievable. I haven't read the last two or three, because Obsidian Butterfly sucked that much. And she needs an editor with a big, fat red pen. |

Obsidian Butterfly! That was the one I read! Tried to read, actually, since I couldn't finish it. That book was horrible, and not in a good way. Maybe that explains why I thought LH was the Worst. Author. Ever.

Well, she's certainly in the top five of the worst writers ever.
And yet, she keeps getting published. *is mystified* |

*gasp*..lol..currently I find the books interesting..I'm on the fourth one now..it might be that I am biased because it is a vampire novel and I love vampires..one thing though that annoyed me at the very beginning, which I got used to rather quickly was the repitition. I don't know I still like them..but we'll see as I read on.
Any other vamp novels you guys could recommend.

When a writer works on a series for a long time, I think they can eventually just get bored with it. Some writers will bring a series to a close when that starts to happen. But others find it very hard to give up the paychecks that come from writing very successful ongoing series with a built-in audience. (And their publishers don't want them to stop either.) So they keep churning out more books. But they're bored, and not enjoying it, which starts to show in the writing. And I think that's what happened with Hamilton.

Well, I didn't think it was horrible.....but it was very.....well, I guess I would say rather odd. And I also had the thought several times that if I had been reading a fan fiction story that pulled some of that crap I would have laughed and maybe stopped reading. I mean really, "Renessme?" I actually laughed out loud at that-- I thought it was supposed to be a joke at first.

A couple of her choices are a bit WTFish but otherwise one of the best series about vampires I've ever read. |
