ST Access Problems

I've been having horrible times trying to access ST for the past 3 days. I can only do so intermittently. Most of the times I get the "can't find server" message. Anybody know what's happening or is it just me? It's happening at work and at home, so I don't think it's browser related.

I've been having the same problem but I thought it was just me.

No, not just you. Sometimes I can access ST alright, but it takes a long time. Most of the time I get the "Can't find server" message as well.

Ditto. In fact, I was thinking of creating just such a thread to see if anyone else was having trouble.

Whew, glad to know it's not just me because I'm not sure I could fix it if it was. But it is worrisome to know it's board/server related. Penny? Any news?

I've been having the same trouble as well, glad to know its not just my computer.

I haven't had any trouble, except very briefly last night (took three tries to load the front page). Our host may be performing maintenance on the DNS servers -- I'll check their forum to see if there's any news.

To my knowledge, though, there's nothing wrong at the host end, nor on our part of the server farm, nor with our software or database. And the domain is renewed for two years, so that shouldn't be a problem, either.

Penny, I couldn't get on for almost a whole day from late Monday night until Tuesday evening. Since then, getting on is still a very hit and miss thing. And reloading doesn't seem to work for me, or maybe I just give up too soon.

As a quick fix, have you tried clearing your browser cache? It may be reloading error messages from before. If you're on a PC, I believe the cache is in your Internet > Temporary Files directory. Just delete 'em, and maybe it will help.

Yes, I've cleaned caches until I'm blue in the finger. (It just took me another 30 minutes of trying to get in to finally make it, btw.)

Everyone I've talked to is having the same problems. Daisy is whining all over her LJ because she still can't get in at all today. Could there be a hacker messing with us?

I don't see any signs of it in our logs, but there may be trouble at one server somewhere that's affecting only those accounts that are downstream of it. Maybe something to do with Hurricane Emily? I'll check with the host.

Q: Who's "everyone"? How many people are complaining of trouble other than the ones who have gotten through to post on this thread? I saw Daisy in the Active Users box earlier today.

ETA: Okay, as it turns out there was a major disk crash on our server cluster earlier this week. The service interruptions probably are the result of processes being diverted to and from other arrays. Ronnie expects to be finished with the restructuring by Saturday at the latest. I still haven't really experienced the difficulties that are being described, so I can't tell on my own if there's another cause, but this one sounds likely enough that I'm gonna call it.

Thanks for check, Penny. That sounds like a reasonable source for the problems. I guess we'll just ride it out and see if stops happening after the weekend.

I haven't been able to get onto the board all week. It's good to have it back.
