Some of them, like me, still like his work, and some do not. But I very rarely run into people who don't find fault with what he does.
I think the Whedon-worshippers are in the minority, too. However, they are so loud, and so confrontational, and so ready to attack anyone who says anything negative about Joss and his work because he is a genius and, if you don't get that, well you're just an idiot. And it's the squeaky wheels that tend to get the attention.

And, jerry, I think the point that article was trying to make is that there are a lot of Whedon fans like the ones you describe. (They like some of his stuff, but don't think he's flawless, or a genius.) But the hardcore Whedonites give "outsiders" the impression that all Whedon fans are the hardcore, "Joss is god, and anyone who doesn't think so is an idiot" types.

Kind of like "if you don't think Joss is a genius, then the terrorists have won."?

How can you argue with that kind of moronic thinking? You can't.

Joss Whedon fanboys/girls = dirt poor Scientologists.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

"Ever heard this story? There once was a tiger-striped cat. This cat...died a million deaths, revived and lived a million lives. And he was owned by various people who he didn't really care for. The cat wasn't afraid to die. Then one day, the cat became a stray cat, which meant he was free. He met a white female cat. And the two of them spent their days together happily. Well, years passed and the white cat grew weak and died of old age. The tiger-striped cat cried a million times and then he died, too. Except this time, he didn't come back to life."
