Will you buy "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Chosen Collection"?

Well, it's now out in stores in time for the Christmas shopping season. Selling price is at $200. I am wondering should I shell out that much money when I already have the complete set. Are the extra features worth the price? Let's hear ya!!!

I've never bought any of the DVDs and don't intend to start. Frankly, and I know this is probably a minority opinion, I don't think BtVS and most seasons of AtS hold up that well under repeat viewing. Way too dependent on gotchas and fakeouts for their initial impact. When you've seen two or three of them, you've more or less seen them all, and most of what's left is a bunch of stagey, corny theatrics.

So, yeah. Even if I'd ever had any intention of buying the junk, it pretty well evaporated after AtS 4 anyway.

Agreed there P. I sometimes see bits of Buffy and Angel repeating and am struck about how much they depend on the gotcha. ME's big flaw was depending too much on the flashy audience manipulations and not enough on traditional storytelling.

Right now I'm putting my stuff up on E-bay which shows how invested I am.

I think long-term success and longevity after a show ends in re-runs/DVDs depends on good storytelling across the board, not the flashy stuff.

Yeah, that's what started to really chap my ass about Joss Whedon - his biggest 'gotcha' moments were always about going for the hurt. Not necessarily because it served the narrative but because he LIKED to go for the hurt. Who wants to see that in reruns?

That said, I might buy the collection, if it was a VERY good deal, because I loved the character interaction between the 'gotcha' moments. The Zeppo was hilarious because it showed how the B/A thing might appear to those not emotionally invested in it, or when Giles was playacting in the library, pretending he was besting Buffy, when he thought he was alone.

I LIVE for that stuff, because I can't help but see a lot of the bigger moments as blatant emotional manipulation on the part of Joss and Co.
