Whedon strikes again...
Hello All,
Hope you are all well. I did check to see if this had been posted but from what I can tell it hasn't been. Is it just me or does his diatribe smack slighlty of 'mine is bigger than yours'. http://au.tv.yahoo.com/news/article/...-edward-cullen Peace out (yes I said it), Fidd

Wow, way to insult your fans with the vampire romance thing. Is he really that dense? He is really that tuned out of popculture for say, the last 100 years? Vampires falling for humans, seducing humans, has been a draw ever since Bram Stoker decided to make bring vampires into the mainstream.
He really is a smarmy bastard in that article though. No big surprise. SMeyer is making millions on her books and movies. He's got rights from 19.99 dvds at Wal-Mart and a show that people are running from in droves. I smell jealousy. He never has been able to just be happy for people's success.

He does have a bit of a cheek and sour grapes on Whedon's behalf isn't a new thing. Although Angel probably would totally kick thingma jigs arse ( not ass because I'm British).
The thing that bugs me is the whole article just seems vaguely insulting to the fans that have stuck by him. Like we were just too stupid to see how stupid B/A was, okay *we* did see how stupid, but you know what I mean. Not to mention that when he was interviewed about B/A back then he made it sound like pure orchestrated genius although I am inclined to believe his current version, more and more I'm believing most of Whedon's sucess is down to lucky punts. From the way he was going on you'd think he was the one that invented the whole genre

Ehhh...I kind of agree with Joss. Angel could kick Edward's ass. I think we're being a little too hard on Joss. I know when I get in "debates" about Whedonverse vs. Twilight I always go for my team.

As mentioned above I totally agree with you...Angel would kick Edward's ass but saying that JW's tone leaves a lot to be desired.

I have no problem thinking that Angel could kick Edward's ass - after calling him "boy" - and that Joss is a horse's ass. Joss didn't run Ats by himself. Hell, he was barely there most of the time, so if Angel is a badass, it's not just because Joss Whedon was in the credits.

I'm confused. I thought Greenwalt "created" the character of Angel. What's the story?

As for the article I agree with the majority of people here who are sating that Joss Whedon really is coming off as a bitter, jealous douche bag, but what hey what else is new? Last edited by LordKain; 08-17-2009 at 04:20 PM. |

Actually, I think he may have been responding to this
http://www.slate.com/id/2223486/
Which I sort of found even more offensive - the tongue-in-cheeky article overlooked the fact that, among other things, Buffy and Angel often parodied the genre. "Angel was a vampire who had a soul. He fell in love with Buffy, teared up a lot, and believed in random acts of kindness. Angel, in short, sucked. Or, rather, he didn't suck, which was the problem. When he did suck, he took limited amounts of blood from consenting human women, or sucked blood against his will, or sucked rat blood. . . . Think about it. Faced with the impact of his diet on humans, Angel accepts a yucky, cruelty-free substitute, then endlessly lectures other vampires about their moral failings because they don't do the same. He's not a vampire—he's a vegan." But scores of women fans (implying young, pining away chatty-room members with no social lives of their own) - loved him. |

Out of all of that, that someone cries 'Bullshit!' on Whedon's 'legendary' 'pioneering' 'feminist' 'spirit' is the most satisfying to me. My favorite example; it sucks that a bunch of old men turned one 15 year-old girl into a vampire slayer without her permission, but it's wicked cool when one 20-something lesbian wicca turns every 15 year-old girl into a vampire slayer without their permission because the wicca is a woman? Dude, WTF? Either it's all bad or it's all good. If all Whedon's quibbling about is gender, he's really missing the point.
Okay, I'm back. They're way too harsh on Eliza Dushku though. Yeah, Katharine Hepburn isn't in danger of losing points to her, but Dushku's serviceable enough.

OMG. That article was win, wrapped in some win, inside of a HUGE freakin' Grand Prix cup carved by Win, Inc.
So, so many favorite parts, but I'll quote just one, because this particular truism cannot possibly be restated often enough: Once More With Feeling shouldn't be a goddamn Rocky Horror Picture Show. Fuck, it's not even a good musical. But then, you'd have to have watched another musical to know that.

I'd marry that damned article if I could. Every point sane people have been making for years, all together like some shining diamond in a sea of shit. I love it like pie.
