The women of Whedon
Joss Whedon lists his five favorite female character creations.
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...ines-entnews&6 It wasn't a shocker to find Cordelia not up there given his whole history with Charisma but Fred!! of all people ?? Seriously ? I know girl child obsession but given all the great characters out there. Heck given all the half way entertaining characters out there the best they could come up with is ms mumbling physicist/goddess/five year old ?

More curious, what happened to keep Willow off that list?

He seems to have picked one from BTVS, one from ATS and one from Firefly. The other two are completely promotional. How he can honestly pick Echo when at the moment she's nothing more than a concept as one of his top 5, I will never know.
And since no one asked, my own top 6 (because I can't choose between them) Whedon women are: Cordelia Anya Tara Lilah Joyce Jenny |

my top 5 would be #1 Cordelia #2 Drusilla #3 Willow #4 Faith and #5 Harmony (can't help it she cracks me up) tied with Lilah

I refuse to read his interviews so can someone spill the list?
Fred's already been mentioned, so I'm guessing it's River from FF - AKA Willow.2 and Willow.3. Echo was also mentioned, so who else? If he picked one from X-Men it would have to be Kitty Pride - The Original Willow Model . FWIW - Cordy was never a favorite of either JW ot TM so it comes as no suprise that's she not on the list. I'm pretty sure Cordy was Greenie's character of choice.

According to the interview, in order, he picked:
1. Buffy (no surprise there. He probably HAD to pick her though I get the feeling she is far from his favorite) 2. River (again, no surprise there) 3. Dandelion (from his new Sugarshock comic. Like Bert said, that is promotion) 4. Echo (have NO clue how you can pick a character that isn't more than an idea yet) 5. Fred Does look like he picked one from each of "his" creations.

Absolute joke! Fred! Not being bitter wasnt expecting Cordy to be there but Fred? The most one note character in the entire Buffyverse!
And the picture with the interview just makes me want to slap him more then ever.

Not at all surprised not to see Cordy there, and I guess not really too shocked at not seeing Willow. I don't for a minute believe that he prefers Buffy to Willow, but I do believe he knows that since Buffy is his first and arguably most well-known creation, it would look mighty strange not to have her on top of the list.

I read it and was hoping to find Cordy on the list, but as usual I didn't get it. I should have known better.
So... Aika's list: Cordy, Dawn, Illyria, Kate, Kaylee, Tara, Zoe Well... I guess I like a lot of his female characters because I realize I could go on. But I also seem to sincerely like ones (Dawn, Kate, Tara) that a lot of people don't. Oh well... no bother to me.

I´m not really surprised that Cordy wasn´t on the list because if she had been one of Joss´ favorites, he wouldn´t have treated Charisma and her character like shit. But that he chose Fred on the first place is unbelievable. She had never been someone special till she became Illyria.

The one great consistency of Joss's favorite women is that they really aren't actually women. His shows featured some female characters who were, including Cordy, Lilah, Jenny Calendar, and Zoe, but Joss always had greater love for the perpetual adolescents.
