What does *g* mean?

I've seen it all different ways, but I can't figure it out. I just know once someone tells me its going to be a real DUH! moment for me.

It means "grin", and it's a way to indicate humor or joking in a post. *eg* means "evil grin" and *veg* means "very evil grin".
