Angel 100th ep: what if Sarah was available?
Given what we've heard about Gellar being the first choice for the writers/producers to appear for the 100th episode to "Get Angel back on Track" instead of Cordelia, What do you feel the end result would have been for the characters on the show. What would have happened to Cordy?

Cordy would never have been mentioned again. We would have had an hour of Spike and Angel fighting over Buffy.

Agreed. Cordy would have died off screen and Angel might have been informed of that fact with a phone call like the end of YW (at best).

I'm not convinced SMG was ever first choice. I think Cordy coming back was as much damage control for the fairly widespread outcry about the way CC was ousted. Sort of a "See, there, how we did that! Now SHUT UP!" if you will.

I suppose they could have lied, but I believe it was Fury on the DVD commentary for YW who said they originally wanted SMG to be in the 100th but couldn't get her. And, I think even CC said at one of the conventions that they turned to her after SMG turned them down. Once they got CC, you may be right about the damage control although I'm not sure they gave one hoot much less two about what CC's fans were saying.

I sometimes wonder if Fury or Whedon or any of the others know how offensive it is to say "well, we really SMG, but she said no so we settled for CC." Offensive to CC to be considered second choice and offensive to, not C/A fans, not *just* C/A fans, but to AtS fans in general who weren't that interested in the lead of another show mucking up AtS' one hundred. Did they ever consider that by putting SMG in there, it's saying that AtS couldn't stand on its own and needed SMG to make it 'special'? Or that a girl who hadn't been in Angel's life for a solid FIVE years would be able to get him 'back on track' while the woman he loved languished in an unseen, barely acknowledged, coma?
But then again, I am talking about the geniuses who gave the world "The Girl in Question". *spits* |

Yes, unfortunately, Greenwalt got the privilege of directing that episode, but he didn't write it. I don't really fault directors for the subject matter. So Greenwalt gets a pass from me on that one.

I guess I should be specific when I've got my hate on, but yeah, I don't care who directed it. I care about who wrote it, because they're the ones who discarded four years of growth for Angel when they had him and Spike act like twelve year olds fighting over a favorite ride. Spike didn't look too good, either, tbh. The man who made that speech to Buffy in Touched shouldn't have been reduced to "neener, neener, you got there first but I was there longest".
Not knowing crap about the inner workings of Greenwalt's mind, I can't speculate if this was another job to him or if he hated every minute of trying to make such recidivous drivel look good. |

I also think if Sarah had did the 100th ep, Cordy would have died offscreen. As for Spike, I liked him much better on BtVS.

I vaguely remember that this ep involved Buffy and Spike. Can anyone give a quick synopsis for those of us who had quit watching prior to The Girl in Question?

Angel and Spike hear that Buffy is dating "The Immortal" in Rome. They have a bad history and childish rivalry with TI and they go to Rome on a mission to bring back the head of some guy for the firm, but they really want to go to get Buffy away from TI. They go on a lame quest (straight out of the 3 Stooges handbook) to find Buffy in Rome - missing her time after time - all the while getting one-upped by some guys that have something to do with the W&H mission. (Can you tell I watched the ep peeking between my fingers and trying not to listen?) We see flashbacks of Spike's & Angel's history with TI which proves they were the most whimpy, stupid vampires in the history of vampires and totally retcons the badass vampires we were previously led to believe they were. They never find Buffy and Andrew gives them a message from her to move on (I think). At least in the end they decide it's time for them to move on. Or maybe not. Dundundun.
