Creation? Ugh.
Still, we expect full reports if anyone heads down!

The first con I ever went to (back when I was 15) was a creation con. It was in NYC right after Thanksgiving.
I hope we get reports from this one, looks forward to seeing if CC has anything planned for next season.

I was thinking about going, staying with friends in LA to save some money and getting the gold package, until I saw the price. WOWZA!
I've never been to a convention before so is it worth it just to pay for the autograph session? Is it anything more than just a signing line?

Creation huh? Last time she was scheduled to appear at a Creation event, she canceled out. Plus, I had bad experiences from Creation events, mainly from last minute cancelations. Hold on till the appeance is more concrete.

It's not anything like how other conventions are (as opposed to signings, which are a different kettle of fish anyway), at least in the UK. Still I'd never tell anyone not to go, esp. if it's you're only chance to see someone. I know I've paid stupid prices on occasion to see someone (RDA was sooo worth it though!) and gone to some really crap events. Just know what to expect, make the most out of it and if you do have a bad time, remember that not all events are the same. If you have a great time, even better! Still, it does strike me as a little strange that Charisma has signed up for this as opposed to a signing. I know she's not really comfortable doing guest talks, or at least never used to be. Still, if she's slowly enjoying that side of things more, excellent for us! Sorry, I can talk about conventions for ages, I';; be shutting up now. LOL

You really are a lifesaver. The only experience that I have with this sort of thing is that I used to go to a large convention in Las Vegas a very very long time ago for video store and video equipment owners and operators. They had celebrities there but the convention was so huge with so many vendors, you always got a chance to sit down and talk to the celebs. I knew most of these sci-fi conventions wouldn't be like that but that was my only frame of reference. I think I might skip this one since it seems Creation isn't such a hot company. With the frequency that I'm in LA, I'm probably better off just to hang around some supermarket in CC's neighborhood (ha! stalker much?) than to pay that much just to be rushed through a line. What convention runners have you had good experiences with? (And that's a general question for people that do conventions). I would like to pop my fan convention cherry eventually.

Well, I normally only do events in the UK, so I'll start with them and move onto the US ones.
The two best in the UK are Starfury and Wolf. They're cheapish (under £100) and you get a lot for it. Early bookers tend to get in a 'meet & greet' where you either sit at tables and the guests come to you or you all just mingle with everyone, guest talks all day, a free auto from each guest (unless they're a bonus guest which costs about a tenner), photo shoots are dead cheap too. Most of the time (especially at Wolf who run smaller cons) you’ll be able to hang out with the guests in the evening too as they often come to parties or just like to hang around the bars. There are a few others, Rogue is good, but new, and Massive Events are trying to be the UK Creation. I went to one of their cons over here and it was crap. Of course, there are a ton of signing events too, which are different again. I always say if people are able, to try a con over here. They’re very different and worth a gander at. As for the US, I myself have only been to two. Gatecon I went to this year, and was held in Vancouver. It was okay, but I wouldn’t queue up to attend another. If it wasn’t for being in Vancouver and doing all the touristy stuff I’d have been very disappointed. The other I go to every year, as do many others on this board. Dragon*Con. It’s awesome. And huge. D*C is like 30 conventions being run all at the same time, there’s a ton to do (you’ll often want to be in five places at once!) and great costumes and atmosphere. You tend to see the guests happily wandering around, willing to chat, even attending fan parties and though their autos tend to cost more in the States (but much less than Creation) unless they’re really busy there is plenty of time to have a chat with them. I’d totally recommend doing D*C at least once in your life, it’s great. I’ll be posting a D*C report/photos in my LJ soon if you want to get more of a feel for it. Hope all that isn’t too confusing! I’m in a rush but I’ll be around later if there’s any questions.
