You know, I didn't know how much I wanted that to happen until after the book was over and it did. Quote:

Well, I thought I would wait a few days after reading the book to try and sum it all up...
First I really did enjoy the book. It was so much better then HBP... I think more then anything I wanted to see Harry happy in the end... After everything he's been through he deserved the chance to live a happy normal (well as normal as possible) life.... I didn't even mind the H/G in this book as much as i did in HBP... It's not that I don't like H/G (yes I rather have H/Hr) but in the last book it was too much like bad fanfiction. I think JKR needed to build it up a little more between them... She had done well with H/G in the first couple of books, but then kinda let it fall to the side (IMO). Then it was like in HBP it came back out of nowhere oh i love you i love you, and left me feeling like WTH when did Harry start having feeling for Ginny.... Now as far as Hr/R go it was still kinda blah to me (better then HBP)... Though I think it has to do more with the fact that I have a hard time liking Ron... A part of me really wants to like Ron, but then the other half wants me to smack him for being a prat.... I know a lot of people really love Ron, but most of the time (after the 3rd book) he just rubs me the wrong way... So aside from the ships the book was great... It was a good mix of light/dark, humor/grief..... I also liked that she brought back some older characters (Mmm love me some Oliver Wood)... Plus we really got to see Neville come into his own in the book, and really show that he is a true Gryffindor.... It was also nice to learn more about Dumbledore and Snape... What I didn't like about the book... Why did she have to kill both Lupin and Tonks!!! Maybe it was the way she did it.. To me it felt like she forgot about them then was like oh crap I need to do something oh i know i just kill them... It's fine if she wanted to kill them but I think they deserved better then oh their dead.... The only really other thing I didn't like was she left so many things open... Yes we know that H/G, Hr/R get married and have a couple kids.. But what about everything else? What do they do for a living did they go back to school? What about all the other characters? How did everyone deal with the aftermath of what happened? I hate having so many unanswered questions.... I only hope that she'll do some kind of question and answer about the book or write something about the other characters.... CC

Especially if you're dueling an insane Death Eater with your mum in the room.

For those left wanting more information about the fates of certain characters, you may be getting it in a few years - Rowling says she may publish a HP Encyclopedia.
Oh, and Arthur Weasley is the person who received a "reprieve" - but he was supposed to die in Book 5, originally, presumably after the attack by Nagini. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19935372/

Cool.
Glad Arthur survived after all then. Not much point to OBHWF if half of it is dead, I suppose.

Yep. And I'm personally very very happy that she didn't kill Arthur Weasley. I'm not sure what her reasons would have been, but I don't know that it would have enhanced the over-all plot for Harry at all. It would certainly have devastated Ron and all of the other Weasleys, but I don't think it would have made any difference to how the story ended for Harry, and so I think it was an unnecessary death that I'm glad was changed.

I don't know where I mentioned it before (I've been blabbing all over the net, and offline as well, so who knows -- I might have brought it up here already), but I felt Colin was to show the sacrifice on behalf of the underaged students who were still willing to stay and fight, and the consequences they suffered. They were all supposed to leave by escaping through Aberforth's, but Colin stayed behind to fight.
That's really just a long-winded way of saying death of innocent? Wait, did Colin even fight or was he just stuck there? For some reason I can see Colin being there to fight, but now I cannot recall whether he was still at Hogwarts by choice or by just not getting out. |

Thanks for the quote about Colin. I was pretty sure that was the case, but then I couldn't quite remember and I don't have my copy at the moment.

No problem. Someone went to all the effort of transcribing it as a pdf; I may as well make use of it.

I'm thinking I might be even more excited about the release of this up coming encyclopedia than I have been for any of the books so far! Then again, by the time it finally hits the shelves I could be well into my 40's and no longer all that interested.

Eeek! I hate to post right after myself, but I just saw this at Mugglenet.com
Naomi Watts cast as Narcissa Malfoy in HBP movie: Naomi Watts, Joseph Fiennes (brother of Ralph Fiennes, who plays Voldemort), and Stuart Townsend will join the Half-Blood Prince cast when filming starts in September. Naomi Watts will play the mother of Draco, Narcissa Malfoy. It is still unknown what roles the other two actors will play. Interesting. I wonder who the other two will be? Rumor has it that Townsend has been cast as Bill Weasley and that Fiennes is going to be Tom Riddle Sr, which would only make sense. Sounds like they might also be looking at Bob Hoskins as Slughorn and Bill Nighy as Scrimgeour. Could work. Last edited by Lovin' Lorne; 07-25-2007 at 12:00 AM. |

Oh... Wow... I haven't been here in ages. It's nice to find a place where the HP talk isn't so intense.
I finished the book on saturday night and still haven't completely registered the fact that it's over. I'm still very much relieved that the trio survived though. I was so tense while the reading the final parts that I had to reread it afterwards. |
