Pilot Season...
... is upon us.
Quote:
I also caught the pilot for Christian Kane's new series, Leverage. I liked that more than I did Fringe. On the other hand, I liked the pilot for The Nine a lot. That didn't work out so well. J. August Richards new series, Raising the Bar, is out there too. Pretty standard by-the-numbers lawyer show though, even with Jane Kaczmarek. That it premieres in August and is on TNT is probably its only hope. Sadly, the pilot for Life on Mars was a pale shadow of the original BBC series. I gather since it was shot, the entire premise has been retooled, the original producers left, and they moved the show to New York. Why even bother to go on?

Am I missing something? How is everyone already getting to see these?

I haven't seen any of the pilots, but based on descriptions alone? Other than "Fringe", I'm completely and utterly uninterested.
The shows I'm excited about are the returning ones. In order: (1) - TIED - "Dexter": Unlike many people, I thought Season 2 was just as compelling as the first season, and I can't wait for the third. (1) - TIED - "Pushing Daisies": Now that the full season is over, I have concluded that this was my favorite new show, mostly due to Chenowith and McBride, but also due to the writing and costumes and Digby. Pure LOVE. (3) - "Chuck": I really enjoyed this by the end of the strike-shortened season. I'm quite excited for the re-premiere. (4) - "Heroes": I am giving them 4 to 5 episodes to make up for the abysmal second season. If there are no improvements, I'm abandoning ship. Life's too short to watch a lousy show just because it had a good first season. As for the rest, I'll be happy to see "Supernatural" and "The Office" again. Everything else I'm a bit meh on, but I do plan to give "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" another try. And, of course, "The Simpsons". There's always "The Simpsons". The mid-season shows are another story - I will be checking out "Philanthropist", because of my sheer love for James Purefoy. In fact, Kevin McKidd guest starring on "Grey's Anatomy" may even be enough to get me to watch my first ever episode of that show.

Did anyone else like Eli Stone. I really got into the show last year. Like Platy the only new show I'm excited for is Fringe. I haven't seen anything for Heroes but I agree with Platy I'll give it 4 or 5 eps to earn my love back.

Yeah, Eli Stone has its issues, but it is just a little bit of awesome anyway.
Despite committing the grave error of disagreeing with Platy, Leverage and Eleventh Hour are the other new series I look forward to seeing. Nothing I've heard about the new season of Heroes instills me with confidence that it's going to be any better than the second season. Kring sounds like he's come down with Whedon Disease.

It's a sad statement of how far down in my affection Heroes has fallen that I haven't thought about it since it ended last year. I haven't gone looking for any information I don't know who is back or what Kring is saying. Is there anything I should know?

I'm still watching Heroes, but not really thinking about it too much.
I liked the pilot for Fringe for the most part. It's definitely got potential. I haven't seen any of the other pilots yet. I am looking forward to the returns of Californication, Dexter, Chuck, and Pushing Daisies, as well as perenials like Lost and 24. |

Oops! Forgot two HBO shows that I'm excited about - I've been hearing really good things about the new vampire show "True Blood" (I know it's based on a series of books, but I haven't read them, so it will all be new to me). And, if "Flight of the Conchords" is going to be back this Fall, then I'm pretty psyched about that show too - IMO, it was way funnier than "Entourage" or "Curb Your Enthusiasm". But I'm not sure when the second season will be airing due to the writer's strike, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking it won't be on until mid-season.

Nothing real spoilery, but I'm reading how this season will have all the good guys acting like bad guys and Sylar becoming just a misunderstood woobie. The best scenario I can come up with is it's a possible future averted. That, of course, would mean yet another season of stuff happening that doesn't matter. The alternative is worse though. And there's word that the already huge cast will get still more additions.

If anyone is interested, I uploaded Leverage, Pretty Handsome, and True Blood on YouTube:
Leverage Pretty Handsome True Blood I wrote spoilery reviews for all of them on my LJ too. I am in the process of writing one for Fringe but Fox took it down before it even finished uploading.

I'm excited about Eleventh Hour too, although it took me a while to separate the trailers for that show and Fringe. Two similar looking blonde leads plus high level creepiness = very similar looking promos.
I can't think of any returning network show I'm excited about at all. Maybe I'll get back on board with Grey's Anatomy, but the ending left me decidedly meh. True Blood on HBO looks good, so I may have that turned back on, premature cancellation of Carnivale notwithstanding.

Amazon has the pilot episode for the new Knight Rider series available for free download by TiVo users. So, I downloaded it. Dude, the casting call for this series must have read, 'Actors possessing any talent whatsoever need not apply.'
And here I thought Bionic Woman sucked.
