Charisma's Career Post-AtS
I mean if you really think about it he fired her the day before they were about to being shooting the last season and by that point it was to late for her to join any pilots for new shows at the time because all the networks had picked them up already and lets not forget that he completely destroyed the Cordy character to the point where it was beyond repair so what do you guys think did he ruin her career?
I think he did not only with the acharacter assasination but unlike Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan, David Boreanaz and Charisma were never aloud to go off and shoot movies while doing the show they were tied down to it and could only shoot films in there off time which was only a couple of months a year and it was doing nothing for either there careers except making them both miss the boat of oportunity. I just hope she drags him down because the bastard doesn't deserve a career after all the shit he's pulled. Last edited by LordKain; 02-25-2007 at 01:27 AM. |

I answered you over at IMDB PRO, but I'll post it here too, for those who can't access it there
Hmmm, since leaving Angel 5 TV movies 20 episodes of 5 different series 1 pilot I wouldn't exactly call her career in ruins

LK, I'm not gonna delete this discussion because that's not how we do, but this is one more whiny, inflammatory post in a whole string of them from you, so I've changed the whiny, inflammatory title.

I think Charisma's post-ATS career has fallen more or less in the middle of the range of places it could have gone. Given her profile on ATS, she wasn't likely to land leading roles in movies. The upside for her would have been to land the kind of role Alyson Hannigan has on "How I Met Your Mother", which has not happened so far. The downside would be to be a guest actress who has to audition for generic roles (which is basically where most of the other ATS cast other than DB are. Charisma is currently a guest actress who has parts written with her in mind, and whose presence on shows is marketed with the idea that it will help the ratings. That's very much in the middle of the Hollywood spectrum.

Fired or not, the odds were against having a breakout career, though it seems that isn't really her intent. I would agree that she's been moderately
successful, but there has been a sort of dry spell of late and I'm not aware of the particulars involved. However (and call me cautious) if this continues through the next year or two, maybe she should consider hanging it up, and then pursue more readily attainable employment

Charisma had a few roles but at the moment itīs very quiet about her. Itīs a problem that she isnīt a very well known actress like Julia Roberts or Catherine Zeta-Jones and so on. In Germany are sheīs never mentioned on TV or in magazines.

I think she's done well and a dry-spell is just that - a dry spell (which may or may not have something to do with her own choices).

I think it's important to keep working, no matter what- a lot of actors have kept their careers alive by taking whatever they can, until eventually something better comes along (an example is Dennis Hopper). H'wood has a very short-term memory and there's the risk they will forget you if you are absent for too long. HIMYM may not be an award-winning vehicle but it does keep Hannigan in the public eye where she might get other opportunities; and it does pay the bills. |

Doesn't Charisma's son start school this year? Could be an issue. I'm just saying.

The main problem is she's in 'that' age bracket. Too old to be young and to be young to be old if you get what I mean.
Most women who make it through that transitional age bracket either do so because they're already in a television show when they hit that age (see Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, and to some extent Eva Longoria) or are not acting, but are kept in the public eye for one reason or another, usually through the fame of a partner (see Calista Flockhart - though I'm not saying that she's with Harrison Ford purely to keep up her profile). By the way, I absolutely love Brothers & Sisters I keep shouting "It's Sally Field for frick's sake!" at the screen. Anyway, I guess my point is this. If Charisma's going through a dry spell, that's Hollywood. In a few years time, she can easily do what Teri Hatcher, Nicollete Sheridan and Marcia Cross all did. And look at them now. But if she never acts again, she's got her husband, she's got her son. She's got seven years on one of the most popular cult franchises outside of Star Trek and... without wanting to sound too sappy... she's got us. She changed our lives, we love her for it, the friendships we've all made with each other are directly linked not to Joss, but to Charisma. And she can be proud of that. |

What Bert said! Her career to-date is comparable to the other actors from the 'verse, in fact better than most! If you look on IMDB, even quite well known and regarded actors have gaps in their CVs of one even two years.

And in regards to paying the bills, isn't AtS still on? For all I know BtVS is too, and Charisma could still be getting residuals from both. I'm guessing I'd love to be able to pay my bills with what she's bringing home even when she isn't working at all.

If she had a good agent, she could be sitting pretty. Doesn't her husband make a good living too? Maybe she is only working when she wants to work, when she sees a project that looks fun to her. She could be in that position. I do adore what Bert said and totally right, on all those points. While we might want to see her on screen, she's already given us so much.
