Next Harry Potter movie pushed back to July 2009

Warner Bros is worried that they won't have a "Big Summer Movie" for 2009 because of the lingering effects of writers strike.

I'm really irritated. I was looking forward to a Potterful birthday this year.

I saw that headline earlier--- I find it SUPER annoying. It feels like this movie has taken forever to come out.

I wonder if the December release date of the Twilight movie has anything to do with it.

I wouldn't think so....since it was coming out BEFORE then. But who the heck knows.

Maybe they've taken too many notes from the Sci-Fi channel and their need to torture BSG fans with super long breaks.

I guess the most likely explanation is that they are trying to stretch their cash cow into the longest, skinniest cow in the whole wide world.

It was coming out before then, but not by much. And the buzz for the Twilight movie has been growing exponentially...although after that last book, you'd think it'd die out completely.

I'd have to go with the cash cow theory. The studios have been saying that 2009 is going to be a lean year as far a product goes because of the writers strike and the impending actors strike. They are afraid that their profits will take a nose dive, so the surest way to insure that they rake in some seriously big bucks is to hold HP:THBP until summer 09.

The latest from the studio -

Despite the delay, Warner Bros insists the seventh and final Potter films will stick to their original release dates.

Studio boss Jeff Robinov said: "The studio's release plans for the two-part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will not be affected by this change.

"We know Harry Potter fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the final chapters unfold on screen.

"In fact, the good news for them is that the gap will now be shortened between Half-Blood Prince and the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

As far as Twilight goes, it's getting it's release date pushed forward a month because of it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Potter was moved back to give Twilight more of a chance. I'm sure it will do well, but there's no way it could out do Harry during the holiday season.

At least I don't think so.

Since they are working with children that age they really should have been cranking out the movies faster than this. At this rate the threesome are going to be 30 by the last movie!!

Entertainment Weekly was slightly pissed! EW had a big ol Harry on the cover "Fall Movie Preview" come out Saturday, then they announced the change on Monday!! Hello, they are actually owned by the same parent company!

I just hope they do right by it in the end.
