RIP Barbaro
After 9 months of surgeries to try to save his life Kentucky Derby Winner, Barbaro was put down this morning. A lesser horse wouldn't have fought this hard and lasted this long. May he now be pain free and at peace.

This news just killed me this morning. The brightest spot for me, and there are one or two, is knowing how the advances they made in his care will help other horses survive and recover from devastating injuries.
Godspeed to a great athlete who happened to be a horse, and who had more heart, class and courage than many humans.

I just found out this afternoon and was more upset than I thought I'd be. I mean they've been saying for days now that they were probably going to do it, but I guess I was hoping that he could still pull through.
Such a shame. |

I know that's what they have been saying; and I really hope it's the case, because otherwise I don't see how they can justify putting that poor animal through so much! He had two dozen surgeries! That seems excessive. I hope they were telling the truth about keeping him pain-free; he was so beautiful and what happened to him was a tragedy. |
