Indiana Jones IV ... for real this time?

Probably the most credible information I've seen that suggests that Indy IV is really going to happen, and soon. Linkety link link:

I'm still really hoping that the planets align and CC somehow manages to land a role in the flick. Hope springs eternal!

Hmm, I'm going to hold off on the doubt about Ford's age b/c I really think these guys can pull it off. 2008? That's pretty cool, thanks for the link.

I have a feeling they mean it this time. But then I'm a huge optimist when it comes to Indiana Jones.

And Ford's age doesn't bother me in the least. One reason they've been waiting so long for the script is that Ford has been adamant about playing Indy as his own real age. If they have something all of the Big Three are ready to shoot, I'm betting it works.

Weird, because I saw just today at Moviefone that they already have a release date -- May 22, 2008 (and in fact it is scheduled to open the same weekend as the Wachowski brothers' Speed Racer).

British entertainment media tend to be a little, well, tabloidy. I might take it with a grain of salt.

That doesn't sound like an even vaguely believable story. Does anyone really think that all use of whips on film sets ever is prohibited?

Given the current climate where an entire city will shut down because of a few Lite-Brites, it's remotely believable. We've become a society of cowards.

But the grain of salt warning is always a good one to keep in mind.

Well, it looks like my idea of having Indiana Jones' daughter be a central part of the next film won't come to pass - instead, rumour has it that he'll have a son, played by Shia Labeouf.

What say you all? (I kind of like Shia, and I think he's a reasonably good young actor - but I'm just not sure I see him as Indy Jr.)

I'll pass judgement after I see him in Transformers.

For some reason I think Leo DiCaprio as Indy's son but that could be because I keep seeing River Pheonix as young Indy and they are rather similar in build.

I saw this a while ago, but I thought Shia was a woman's name.

I never watched his Disney channel show - "Even Stevens"? - and he was a bit of an annoying side-kick in "I, Robot" and "Constantine", but I was actually pretty impressed with him as a young actor in "Holes".

I'm not sure who I personally would cast - it depends if the script envisions a "mini-Indy", or if the writers are intending to do a compare and contrast, with a bookworm, dorky son. (Although Ford's Professor Jones is a bit of a dork when he's not in the middle of a run-for-your-life adventure.)

Oh yeah, I saw him in Constantine, he was OK in that.

Will this be a child with Marion? If so I can't really picture a nerdy bookworm.

Apparently the Shia Labeouf thing is still just a rumor.

Bearing in mind that Sam says Shia's casting is still a rumor...I think the fact that Lucas has called The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles canon may have something to do with it. We know from the series that Indy does have a daughter, who probably was born around 1950-55. If the script is true to Ford's reported insistence that he play Indy as his own age, the daughter we know he has might be as young as 10 during the movie's time frame -- maybe a little young to be a new torchbearer for the series, which I think may be another consideration.

Of course, this doesn't leave out the possibility that Indy has an older daughter we don't yet know about.
