I may be bitter here (mostly, in my dislike for Joss) but when he says at the end of this promo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hArFWpPlV4) that he's scared of the endless ideas he has for this, I kind of want to smack him in the face. Is that wrong?
"We're terrified that we're just gonna have too many ideas. That's something you should be terrified of." This from the man who couldn't think of a decent way to write the majority of his characters out of his other shows without having them go evil, be possessed or kill them for the shock value. What a DICK.

Anyone else watch? It wasn't as horrible as I was expecting..... (one review I read called it ludicrous AND slightly pornographic)-- but it wasn't the most riveting television ever either.
And on a side note-- how awkward were those "intros" with Eliza and Summer?? Eeshk. Hope they don't do that again.

I watched it too. I didnt really get into and didnt think it was too great, but I think I'm going to try to catch a couple more episode, because I'm thinking maybe its just a slow start up.

I watched it and I felt very "meh" about it. Like all new shows, it gets three episodes to impress me or it doesn't get watched again.
Did JW direct it? I didn't check. Cause seriously that scene with the private investigator (?) getting chewed out that kept intercutting to him getting beat on in a ring, I couldn't understand anything because the boxing match was so distracting from the dialogue. There were other parts that were really jerky and edited oddly. It didn't seem to flow exactly.

In my opinion, Dollhouse suffers from "Whedon-itis" - great concept, hit or miss execution. Honestly, replace Dushku with a more capable actress and I think I would have dug last night's episode. Hopefully DeKnight or Minear will be writing a fair share of episode. I know most around here don't care for the latter, but I think both are really good writers.
What really irks me about Whedon is this horror movie he's making "Cabin in the Woods." Calling it the "horror movie to end all horror movies". Frankly, I'm all for giving the dude about a year or so to come up with a really kick ass TV show concept, but then turning it over to Greenie or Minear or someone else to run. |

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. That's why I didn't understand the negative reviews. It's not that bad. Either way Dollhouse is guaranteed 13 episodes so FOX will air all 13 regardless if the ratings get better or not.
I'll watch again. I have nothing else better to watch on Fridays. The only good shows I watch on FOX are House and Fringe, anyway. I was looking for another good show. This has some potential. *shrugs*

I haven't been paying attention to Dollhouse much. After s4 of AtS I pretty much knew I wouldn't be interested in another Whedon show. Getting jerked around emotionally by someone who just loves to go for those 'pain moments' for the sake of getting a reaction is not someone whose career I'll be rootin for. But. I did read a review of Dollhouse in People magazine this morning.
Truly, how is it that this man is associated with feminism in any way? The way I understood the review, someone needs a job done, and a girl gets pulled from *the dollhouse* and imprinted with memories and skills to do that particular job, and then when the job is done the memories/skills are removed and she's back in the dollhouse, looking blank? NO personalities of their own except what the 'programmers' are whatever give them? Temporarily? Does no one find this concept just the slightest bit skeevy? Or did I misunderstand the premise? |

No, it is definitely skeevy. Isn't that why Helo and the FBI (I refuse to call him whatever name his new character has been given) are investigating? It is supposed like human trafficking.

Because I was thinking it was just like being a slayer, but with different wiring. Shadowy men still sending girls to their possible death, controlling their lives to a scary extreme. Will Echo be the new Buffy then, refuse to play and get punished? |

You know, I think I may have liked this story when it was still called Ghost in the Shell.
(I know I shouldn't be commenting on a show I haven't seen, but anyone familiar with Little Joe's long and predictable career of ripping off successful anime films and series will notice the pattern.)

Did I watch Dollhouse…no. Have no interest in it to be honest. Concept does not interest me and it’s a new show. What are the odds it lasts? I saw what he did to Angel (and read about what they did to Cordy in S4 and S5...no thank you). I do a wide circle around any of JW’s projects.
As for some of the reviews I was hearing ouch!!! I only just stumbled across Firefly thanks to T:SCC. Little off topic but what’s interesting in the second Firefly handbook it states that the only reason the eps were so good was because they were constantly worried about cancellation and that was the most creative times. They chucked bad eps. And maybe it was good the show ended so soon. I read some eps they were planning on doing…need I say I don’t think so. I watched T:SCC Friday nights…nothing else. From what I’m hearing they have low ratings expectations and we’ll see how the DVR number factor in. And I have to add House to my TV list. What did you think of the Summer Glau and ED commercials? I watched (sadly).
No snark, no good lines, not much of a story, and already they've got an antagonist who will be after Echo. I didn't really care for anyone in the cast, and that tech guy is about as exciting as a pile of poo. As far as ED goes, I found I was waiting for her to go postal on someone, even though I knew she wasn't supposed to. If there's not a lot of improvement in the next couple of weeks, I'll go back to watching Flashpoint live instead of taping it, besides, Jessica Steen is doing an arc on Flashpoint for a couple of weeks while the Pink Power Ranger is away on maternity leave. The SG and ED introductions reminded me of amateur businessmen writing and making their own commercials.

Yeah, actually the most glaring omission. If nothing else, ME is usually good for snark and/or quippy dialog.

To me Dollhouse seemed a lot like Firefly in that it was okay, but hardly groundbreaking or compelling.
