I am sorry. I was under the impression that USA Today, Fox News, and CNN were all national. But I guess not. Cause my copy of the April 13, 2004 USA Today had a very long article on page 1D with another related one on 4D.
And I know I saw on my CNN and Fox News reports on the campaigns. Not to mention the E! news shows. But then again that must have only been in my area. And heck TV Guide must also be only a local publication. US Weekly too. My Bad. |

On a serious note, I've long since wondered if there was any sort of rivalry between the HP and LotR fandoms? I guess cause they deal with good/evil, magic, and the fist two movies had a bit of a competition going on. Are there any my fandom is better then your fandoms wanks out there?

Yeah, BA fan that does count as national. But then again, the third J. Lo marriage also got coverage in the magazines that you mentioned and even more time was devoted to that. So, it pretty much tells you how the so-called journalist world views news like this. It's just news like anything else, and except for the diehard ATS fans (like Wrongda, USA Today, TV Guide), those mentions were just posted as everyday news IMO.

ETA- In response to BAFan. If I'm not mistaken the USA Today article was from the Entertainment reporter (totally blanking on his name). There wasn't a long ass article like the one that I mentioned for Rob Lowe/WW. Sorry but I really don't count stuff from gossip people like Wonda and Michael or entertainment reporters as national news coverage. If the major media networks picked up on it and dedicated a serious amount of coverage time so that the avg. person might know what was going on; then I'd say there was huge fallout. However that wasn’t what happened. Sorry.

A few blurbs in online news outlets, and TV guide/E!news and USA today don't make sustained or saturated coverage that would really be needed to make some sort of bad stink. Sure the SA campaign made some news, and they've done some great stuff for charity which *should* be lauded, but it's hardly enough to get Levin fired. Every comment by the writers and actors don't seem to take the money factor into consideration. It doesn't matter if ME had ten more years worth of story, they weren't bringing in the ad revenue and even though the ratings were up from season four, they weren't as high as they used to be. If anything, despite the best fan efforts, renewing ATS for five might have been deemed one of his "mistakes."

Also, there's a difference between on the spot reporting and after the fact publicist type schtick. The AtS cancellation reports came a long time after the deed was done, and were overblown at that (A rally consisting of how many people?...) The Rob Lowe reports were headlines the minute that it came out.

I'm sorry, but has E!anything ever counted as serious news? Using Krongda as a ref is just wrong. And I didn't say there wasn't ever a single article done on any campaign--I just said I never saw it except here. I don't think it made much of an impact on the world at large. I'm starting to think it's possible to fall for your own hype.
In any case, it's over. O-V-E-R. Stick a fork in it already, cause it's DONE. And just for the record, the scariest thing I've seen in a long long LONG time was Jordan as Harry, available for hire. I've often said it was the LOTRippers that kept the LOTR fandom ahead of Pottermania in the Hierarchy of Wank, but the crossover potential there has all the makings of the apocalypse being seriously upon us. And may I add that, as per usual, I adore all my Strangers, and the three Ps in particular. They're on a roll today, I'm thinking.

Half the HP fandom is up in arms over the 'WTFOMG!! Hermy stole Rons Line!"1"!"1!!!1' stuff and the LOTR fans are pushing back with the 'get over it, u had 1line. we had r books destroyed!!1' Now it's the war of the book purists and who was fucked over more. Is great fun!

But as for the rest? Considering folks did it before the Whedonverse was but a twinkle in Joss' sperm (or something) and they sure didn't do it for Quote:
