Thumbs up Who's Your Favorite Scooby NOW?

Excluding the characters who permanently migrated over to AtS (Angel, Cordy and Wesley), who is your favorite Scooby now? And has your answer changed over the years?

When I say "Scoobs," I mostly mean Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles, the originals. But you can toss Dawn, Oz, Tara, Faith, etc in there. And even though Spike became a regular on AtS, I still think of him as more of a BtVS character, so toss him in there too.

Once upon a time, Willow was my favorite Scooby. But, oddly enough, I lost a lot of interest in her about the same time AtS started (and my Cordy-love began to grow). After that, I don't think I really had a favorite Scooby. I know I liked certain characters more than others at certain times, but none of them stood out as a favorite.

Now, my favorite Scoob is easy to pick out. Xander. He's the one I remember most fondly from the show now days. And, when I read BtVS fic, 9 times out of 10 it's going to be Xander-centric. Heck, I'm getting the urge to re-read one of my favorite Xander stories even now. (One of those, "Xander dressed as such-and-such that fateful Halloween, and ended up keeping the powers," type deals.)

What's interesting about this is that, back in the day, while I liked Xander, I never considered him my favorite. Now, I've retroactively become a huge fan of the character. I even find myself getting annoyed about things that didn't bother me at the time. Like the character being so underutilized, or the writers making him the butt of some joke for a quick and easy laugh.

So who is now your favorite Scoob? Or, at the very least, which Scoob do you still feel even a hint of fondness for?

I'd have to go with Giles just because he's the only one (of the originals) that they never managed to destroy (IMO).

Very early on (S1/S2) Willow was my favorite Scoob followed by Xander and then Cordy. Never liked Buffy and Giles while very entertaining wasn't someone I could identify with (at the time).

By the end of S2 I loved Cordy, Xander, Willow and Giles, never really loved or even liked Buffy or Angel all that much.

By S3, it was Cordy and Giles ("Band Candy"), although "The Zeppo" did a lot to remind me why I loved Xander in the first place.

Cordy going to Angel was the only reason I gave the show a chance and for the most part I'm glad I did...I just pretend the show ended in S3.

If I can include those that came after the original group than I'd add Anya because she was a wonderful character.

I haven't really thought about it much, and I haven't watched the show in years--literally. But I guess if I had to pick one now it would be Xander. When I first started watching the show it was Buffy I liked best, and then when AtS started it became Cordy. I never ever really liked Willow that much, and Xander lost me when he and Wilow cheated. I really have a hard time picking one at all, to be honest.

Buffy and Spike. I love them. Then Giles, because he was always awesome.

I never really warmed up to Willow. She was written in a way that I knew I was SUPPOSED to like her, because she was all cute and stuff, but it had the opposite effect on me. I hate cutesy, and the baby talking just clinched it. Xander lost me in early s3, with his icky proprietary demands on Buffy's emotions. After Dead Man's Party, I had had it with him.

I love Buffy because of the way she keeps going, her strength. There were a couple times when I wanted to bitch slap her but most of my frustration with her had to do with how much blame she was willing to shoulder when she didn't need to.

Spike because his character was upapologetic, menacing, funny and heartbreaking. Plus I loved the way he loved Buffy.

Giles I loved because he was the adult and subsumed so much of his own life in order to discharge a duty that eventually would be heartbreaking. I also love that he was willing to take hits to his own soul to spare Buffy (like killing Ben), and that he was so bad ass when he needed to be. Mostly I loved how he was willing to physically protect a girl that didn't really need it.

I love Cordelia most of all. I know she's supposed to be excluded but I love to talk about how much I love her. Her strength and humor and the way she valued herself. There was nothing 'victim'-like about Cordelia. She didn't let anyone walk all over her and she flayed people with her tongue no matter who they were. Her ability to absorb new and scary things and 'get on with it'. She's still who I want to be when I grow up. <3

This sums up my love of Giles to a tee. Like Ducky on NCIS I find the older British gents to be the men I'm most interested in. Their experience, age and depth...oh, yeah.
