Is it possible to post pictures in threads (and is it officially allowed)?

I wanted to post a manip I have made in the Multimedia forum.

I guessing that to do so, you have to go to 'Attach File' when posting a new thread, and then click 'browse' to find the picture on my computer.

After doing so, will the picture appear in your post?

I'm too scared to try it now, just in case the picture doesn't appear and the thread that I *would* have posted would have no point in existing (if there's no picture to be seen).

Can anyone clarify any of this for me, please?

Thanks

You should be able to post manips under 15KB in Multimedia. Larger files will be linked rather than posted. Go ahead and experiment; you can always delete the post if you wish.

Penny, I keep getting an error everytime I try to post a new thread with one of my manips attached.

It might be because the size of the .jpeg file comes up at a whopping 180k.

Is there any other way I could reduce the size of the file so that it can be posted in a thread here?

Yeah, 180KB would bust it, all right. If you have Photoshop, try doing a Save For Web and optimizing it down below 15KB. Otherwise, you'll just have to post a link to it.

It looks like I'm going to have to admit defeat here...

I'll try alternate ways to get my manips noticed - probably by starting up a new site or asking any kind people if they can host my pics for me.

Thanks for the help, Penny!

Oh, are you trying to upload directly from your computer? Because we have the board set to disallow any kind of direct uploads for security reasons. Only Web links and uploads are permitted.

If you have no host, try sending the image to stranger@stranger-things.net. I'll see if I can bust it down for you, maybe put it on the server.

Penny, how do you link to other pictures on the net?

I've got some of my manips online.

I know how to do text links, but I see that posters here are doing 'picture' links in fan art threads, that when you click on them, they take you to the location where the full picture is.

Everytime I go to 'browse' when I try to attach a file to a post, it goes to look for files in my documents on my computer.

Is there any way around this, or should I just ignore the 'attach file' bit all together?

My brain hurts now. I'll go lie down ...

Ignore "attach files" altogether. You can't do that, because that board feature is disabled.

You can link pictures from URLs, or you can use the standard HTML < IMG SRC= > tag to place an image in your post. If the image is larger than 15KB, all that will show is the link. This is a board parameter set to conserve bandwidth and keep board download times for users to a reasonable level. The board software automatically builds a clickable link when you include the full Web address (including the http :// prefix) in your post.

I got your email, Penny.

The picture didn't show up when I loaded the page up, but maybe it was just my computer.

I'd like to say a big thank you, anyway, for all your help - I greatly appreciate it. You're a super moderator.

Aie. The link works for me -- not sure what to do other than mail it to you, then.
