Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas has been given a pilot order by ABC for a new comedy.

Cupid is a reworking of Thomas's short-lived 1998 series of the same name. The show's main character believes he has been sent to Earth by Zeus to match-make 100 couples.

Thomas is said to be prioritising Cupid over a spinoff of Beverly Hills, 90210 which he is developing for The CW, though he will still write the script for that.

Cupid is being produced by ABC Studios and Sony Pictures TV, which made the original.

Paula Marshall played the female lead in the original show, I think the character would be perfect for Charisma in this revival!

Cupid was one of my FAVORITE television shows when it ran. Jeremy Priven was amazing. It is a shame that he probably is too big of a star now to come back to it. But he had the perfect timing and everything. If anyone is interested, I have the episodes.

And CC would be great for the psychologist role. It would be a real different role for her, that is for sure. The female lead was always really repressed, even for a lady who wrote books on romance and being single. Being around Cupid opened her up a lot.

So anyone have Rob Thomas' address? Maybe he just needs a few nudging letters to remind him.

(Oh, and the actor that played The Mayor on BTVS is in an episode of the original. ** He played a guy that burst into song whenever he felt like it because it made him happy. Just right on the street, bam! into song **)

Yeah, I loved Cupid and Jeremy Piven, he was perfect in that role. I'm glad he finally found success with Entourage but I always thought he desevered to make the A-list for Cupid.
