According to Charliane Harris' site the Sookie Stackhouse series of book with be made into an HBO series called True Blood starring Anna Paquin as Sookie, it's supposed to come out in late 2007. I wonder who will be cast a Bill?

I'd just like to know whether or not Sookie will ever go back to Bill. I wish I hadn't gotten so attached to him.

Well, I hope she never goes back to Bill, after the way he treated her.
(I know that I could never forgive him; so if she does, I will think a LOT less of her).

I prefer her with Eric.
I don't much like Calvin (too old) or either of the shapeshifters; and Sam is sort of wimpy. But Eric is really hot.

If you're referring to when he was under his sire's spell, eh. He wasn't in control. And after that, I sort of lost interest in the books. Don't get me invested in a romantic interest for three books and then tell me she's moving on to a new love interest. I'm too traditional/old-fashioned for that.

Don't forget- Bill only seduced Sookie in the first place because the Queen ordered it; his sire's spell had nothing to do with that.
And he's one of the Bellefleurs really, and they are the enemies of the Stackhouse clan.

So she is much better off without Bill, who turned out to be a liar and very manipulative.
(I never liked him).

Yes, and there can never be romantic interests who come from fighting clans, can there? Good thing those Montagues and Capulets got along so well. Since Bill was clearly set up to be the romantic interest in the first three books, I guess I understand why I feel so attached to him. And he has more than proved himself where Sookie was concerned by saving her life a time or three. I might could agree that she's better off without him if I could be bothered to read a book without him in it....but I don't care, so I won't. Opinions are like....well, let's just say that everyone has one, and you and obviously disagree about Bill. Let's leave it at that. :)

If the series featured Bill as a romantic interest, however, I might find myself interested enough to have HBO back in the house. And that's something I said I wouldn't do after they cancelled Carnivale.

The Bellefleurs aren't just fighting clans, though.
They are truly nasty, especially Andy. I think Sookie is smart to stay clear.

As for Bill saving Sookie's life, she has saved his as often. And who mostly endangered her in the first place? I guess I can't get past him using her, then discarding her, then attacking her, then trying to get her back.

But you are right, if you like a relationship, then you like it and that's that.
I probably won't take to Quinn (probably the next love interest) because of my fondness for Eric.

But I will probably at least sample the series and see how it works out.

I've never read these books, but I am curious about this show given that it is being developed by Alan Ball of "Six Feet Under". They've cast the male "lead" - I don't know that I've ever heard of this guys before.

I know I haven't heard of him, but he actually *looks* like I picture Bill in my head. I wonder if that's who he's playing. I would imagine, based on the first three books, that Bill is at least the nominal romantic lead in the beginning.

Darn it. I may end up with HBO yet.

The article says he plays one of Sookie's coworkers; that sound more like he is playing Sam.

It says he will play the male lead, a vampire. I think that would have to be Bill since, as I said, he was the lead in at least the first three books. It goes on to say Brooke Kerr will play a coworker, so I'm guessing she's Sookie's waitress friend.

Just wanted to let anyone who is interested know that the project is listed at imdb under True Blood; lots of comments and speculation included on the message board.

(For some reason many seem disappointed in the casting; I'm not sure why because I expected the cast to be mostly unknowns, with one name to anchor).

I'm a little disappointed in the casting of Anna Paquin as Sookie, she's lovely and talented but she just isn't an average to good looking busty blonde; which is how Sookie is described.

True Blood is definitely a "go", according to this link:

And there's a picture there of Anna Paquin as a blonde looking really different from anything I'd seen before. I haven't read these books, but that picture sure looks to me like a good-looking blonde. :)

Wow. She looks great as a blonde; better than as a brunette, I think. And IMO she looks the part of Sookie, although of course the real test will be on screen. I wish they'd announce a premiere date.

I have only just started reading these books and have started with i believe is the second in the series living dead in dallas? as dead until dark we not available. I also have club dead and dead to the world, so I kind of wish i had not read this thread esp as Bill seems to be out of the picture.

On a seperate note has anyone read the stephanie meyer's triology, i am on the last one and really enjoyed them.

I have also finished the first 3 of Laurell Hamilton's and a couple of Tanya Huff's which i wasn't too sure i would like but did.

Although I will admit the books were a tad overly melodramatic and perhaps a teensy bit high on the cheese factor ;) , I loved loved loved the first one, really enjoyed the second, and haven't come close to finishing the third. I don't know what it is about this last one, but I just can't get into it like I did the other two.

I have to agree they were a bit cheesy in some parts, I am about halfway through the third book and have to say that it seems at times as if the author is going over old ground an awful lot - however I will carry on there might be a twist/suprise in there somewhere.

Going back to sookie stackhouse in living dead in Dallas I thought it did seem a little strange that Bill would leave Sookie alone when the car broke down, from reading some of the posts in this thread i'm guessing that Bill was in some way involved in this or am I way off the mark here?

bumping this up since the show starts in Sept. Does anyone know where I can find a good summary, that's not too spoilery? I'm curious as to what the basic story is about. Looking at the previews running on HBO and it looks interesting, so I think I'll watch.

If anyone wants an early look, I have it up on YouTube. I know that isn't a good summary but if you want to see what its like before HBO airs it, that's what I can offer. LOL

I haven't read the book and I'm avoiding spoilers, but I'm starting to get really excited about this show. Here's a pre-view article from TVGuide online, which is a bit spoilery but hopefully not too bad:

I can't get over how amazing Anna Paquin looks as a blonde.
