Helmed by Tim Minear, co-starring Nathan Fillion and Amy Acker. (Or possibly not Acker.) Premiering this spring, I believe. (http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-story-amyacker-drivecasting,0,4105135.story)

Thoughts?

Like most of Tim's projects, I look forward to the seven episodes that will air, and the six more that eventually surface on the internet :)

Wow, this series has captured the imagination of the ST public. ;)

I can't say I'm terribly interested in the premise, but then again, there was once this show about an ensouled vampire that wasn't bad.

It wasn't as dumb as I thought it'd be (and yet I watched), but seriously, you have to force people to enter a race where the winner gets $32 million? I don't think so.

Watched it, may watch it again, that's about all I can say.....

Obviously these people never heard of The Cannonball Run :D

I liked it. While I know some around here aren't Minear fans, I think he's shown himself to be a great writer. And I really hope Drive makes it because I'd like to see Nathan Fillion on a weekly basis. I think he has a great combination of humor, dramatic chops, and action ability. And yes, I have a bit of a man crush.

But on a heterosexual note, Mircea Monroe=hot as hell.

The premise is inherently massively ludicrous, but I thought the execution was pretty good. I like Nathan Fillion, and although I had issues with Minear's writing of Cordelia, I have liked most of the other things he's done. The ratings weren't good, so it looks like another likely Tim Minear 13-episode special, but I think I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Do you think there were plans for more? The entire setup seems fairly close-ended. Where do you go after revealing that Amy Acker is faking her abduction so Mal will enter the race, and Ditzy Mom's husband set her up to be in the race to build her confidence, and Salazar's father got him in the race to get him out of prison, and on and on?

You change the cast and have next year's race? They've been doing it for at least 27 years that we know about, so why not? Not that I want that because I'm hoping it will tank. :D

Well, yeah, the lather-rinse-repeat option is open; just ask Howard Gordon. But where's the hook for another season if the Sooper Sekrit Kabal is exposed in season one? Where's the season one payoff if the Sooper Sekrit Kabal isn't exposed? Kind of in an infinite loop there.

But I don't think it's an issue. Like jerry pointed out, the ratings were not stellar. It barely beat a rerun of 7th Heaven, so keep a lookout for the DVD set.

I think that is a shame actually because I kind like the show. It's like a popcorn movie (all action without alot of character growth), but for television. It really is full of plot holes and logic as well, but still enjoyable.

I don't think it is the best work that TM has ever done, not by far, but I still find it enjoyable.

And the fact that barely three episodes (or four?) they have already killed off one of the racers (in all honesty, they really should of warned them of the dire consequences of trying to rejoin the race after they were elminated) speaks to the ability to take risks that other shows are not willing to do.

And I REALLY, REALLY like the new car that they gave NF's character (who IJMHO, steals every scene he is in). :)

Variety is reporting that Fox has cancelled Drive. So there's continuity anyway. They (Fox) are deciding when or if to make the final two episodes available on-line.

Fox is going to air the final two episodes on July 4th (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=7378). Yeah, there'll be lots of people glued to their TV on July 4th. Nothing else happening, after all.
