Very old rumor that I never heard

Reported by Corona Coming Attractions, 7/10/99:
In a follow up to their recent story about casting hopefuls for the Archie movie, Corona Coming Attractions now reports that Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina The Teenage Witch) has signed. According to the report Hart will play Betty, Archie's blond sweetheart. CCA also reports that Rose McGowan (Jawbreaker) is close to signing for Veronica. However, the article also indicates that Charisma Carpenter (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) is in contention for Veronica. Scott Foley (Felicity) is rumored to be looking at the part of Reggie. One final rumor is that Glenn Close (Tarzan) is interested in the part of Miss Grundy.

Then in another bit is says that the Archie was dropped so they could do Joise and the Pussycats (which was made)

Anyone else ever heard this?

Wow. Melissa Joan Hart as Betty would've been horrid. I've always seen Betty as a very chipper Sarah Michelle Gellar. Charisma as Veronica I could definitely see. Though I never was a fan of V. I always rooted for the sweetheart, Betty.

LOVED Betty. Didn't much like Veronica. But as Michael Vartan once put it - "Veronica had the great legs." ;) And Charisma would be fantastic.

BUT MJH as Betty? Nuh uh.

A/B are too much the American small town couple. Its almost a sterotype. I just always like A/V because thats the kind of couple I like. Such as Alex/Isabel on Roswell or Cordelia/Xander on Buffy.

And the only Archie movie I have ever seen is a video tape I have of a tv movie...

Taking into consideration the fact that BOTH Betty and Veronica are vying for Archie's affections, and Veronica's wishy-washy about her "feelings" for Archie, I side with Betty. Though we all know she's too good for that lug anyways.

i haven't read archie comics in a very very long time, but wasn't Sabrina the teenage witch a character in the archie comics,
(i'm sure i read that somewhere)

that would be wierd, having someone play 2 different characters from the same comic

I am the hugest Archie comics fan. Own at least 100 or so. I could definately see Charisma playing Veronica. I was a much bigger fan of Veronica, just because I love her character-- with the shallowness, materialistic side, but that sensitive side underneath that you could see when she was being a best friend to Betty. Nera can back me up here. ;)

They should consider remaking a movie or bringing this project back. The other one wasn't good. And Melissa Joan Hart as Betty? Ick. She's bad enough as Sabrina.

I could see Reese Witherspoon playing Betty, James Marsden maybe as Reggie- but his eyes aren't the same, Charisma as Veronica... I'm still wondering who could be the best Archie though. They are not enough red-haired male actors in the industry at the moment.

Another reason I liked the A/V ship more in comics is Veronicas dad.

I liked the comics where Archive would go over to her mansion and try to help out her dad. Veronica would see it as sweet and that hes trying. Her dad would get a headace and yell after Archie destroyed by accident a expensive vase or painting.

Had the C/X ship continued. Am I the only one who would have liked that kind of thing between Xander and Mr Chase?
