i'm goimg to guess somewhere about
13 weeks and counting
seeing as how they're still filming (CC's third episode was supposed to start filming today) they must be pretty confident that the show will return, probably in march
i will update the count weekly till we get a firm airdate.

As for "Miss Match," the Alicia Silverstone (news) vehicle that was bruised by ABC's TGIF comedy block and CBS' buzzworthy "Joan of Arcadia," Zucker said the network will show a little patience. "We like it a lot," Zucker said. "We don't think Friday's the proper night for it, so we're probably going to try and find another place for it."

Thanks, Tojo and Jake!
I'm glad they're showing a little patience with this one. I think, on the right night, it would be something viewers tuned into. I was reading this week's EW, which said one of the things that hurt MM was Hope & Faith--and part of that was Kelly Ripa having a show on every morning on which to advertise H&F. LOL

Variety reported this morning that four more eps have officially been ordered, bringing the total number for the season up to 17. Also they're contemplating bringing the show back earlier than March by putting it into a new timeslot. Link to the article below.

Good for NBC for showing some patience. Even though it's after Boomtown:(

TV Guide Online reveals that "NBC has ordered four additional episodes of its low-rated Alicia Silverstone dramedy Miss Match." E!Online reports "NBC giving producers of Miss Match an order for four additional episodes, which brings the grand total to 17. Peacock prez Jeff Zucker also announcing the Alicia Silverstone series would benefit from a new timeslot next year."
if that last sentence is true, they really must like the show.
sure, MM only gets a 4-5 rating, but when you compare that to the top ratings for the night, typically 8-10, it's not really doing that bad, if it was shown on a better night, that would probably translate to a 9-11 rating
i wonder if CC will be in any of these new 4 episodes.
http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271|85191|1|,00.html
The network has ordered four more episodes of "Miss Match," which stars Alicia Silverstone as a divorce lawyer by day, matchmaker by other parts of the day. That will bring the show to 17 episodes for its first season.
At the same time, though, the show is going on hiatus for the early part of 2004. NBC is moving "Ed" to "Miss Match's" 9 p.m. ET Friday spot in January, where it will run through most of February sweeps before ending its season early.
"Miss Match" will then return in late February or early March for the remaining six episodes of its run, an NBC spokeswoman says. The series has received mostly favorable reviews, but audiences haven't warmed to it as much as expected. Its first few episodes, which aired at 8 p.m. Fridays, were soundly beaten by CBS' "Joan of Arcadia." Since moving to 9 p.m., its fortunes have improved a little, but it draws only about 6.4 million viewers a week.
Its performance among NBC's target audience of adults 18-49 have been steady, hovering around a 2.5 rating, which is decent for a Friday show. It typically wins its timeslot among young women.

maybe if they made the lead a little more interesting and stop making her "perfect" then people would watch. all of the supporting characters seem to have "flaws", her dad is "money hungry" and lecherous, nick is pretty much the "smarmy lawyer", her best friend is a bartender who obviosly doesn't make enough money if she has to moonlight as an elf, plus she pretty much fell into bed with santa before the first date. the guest stars seem to be "flawed" too, but kate just lords her perfectness over everyone thinking that she is never wrong. but the supporting characters are the more interesting ones esp. with their "flaws". plus they had the kate/michael thing way too soon. they need to show the supporting characters more than kate or try to make kate more human.

not to dump on NBC because after all they are showing an enormous amount of patience with the show, but their tryout on another night just didn't strike me as smart, the way they did it.
MM is on opposite JAG, the highest rated show on that night, so for a tryout, they put it on monday opposite CSI MIAMI, the highest rated show of THAT night, and which has almost double the ratings of JAG.
miss match had it's average ratings last night:
4.5/7 fast nationals
2.8 households

Charisma Carpenter's third appearance on Miss Match will be an episode titled "Divorce Happens". An episode that will also have Nathan Fillion and Dina Meyer as guest stars.
no airdate listed yet.
how would you like to see kate fix serena up with nathan fillion's character.
i could just see the glow in his eyes if that happened, (the way he talked about charisma, i.e. 'she's gorgeous')
tojoson
12-17-2003, 03:25 PM
just thinking out loud,
nathan fillion says they love charisma on the miss match set. who loves her?
miss match is made for NBC, by darren star productions,
darren star productions loves charisma.
darren star created sex and the city,
sex in the city is ending it's run,
maybe darren star is looking for another half-hour cable series.
maybe darren star productions would like to have charisma in a new cable series running 10-13 episodes per year, leaving CC time to guest on other shows a lot
it's nice to think about.
i don';t think they will want her to become a regular on MM, or even an often recuring role, i think she would take over the show if she did.

Miss Match got slammed by Jay Leno last night. Here's what happened.
Ok, so Jay was talking about The Lord Of The Rings, and decided to interview a hobbit, played by that annoying Gilbert Godfrey (Or howveer it's spelled) Anyways, one of the things Jay said was that Gandalf was the most powerful wizard ever, and could do anything. Than Gilber/hobbit said that he couldn't make people watch Miss match. Jay says they got renewed with 4 episodes. Gilber/hobbit screams in pain and calls the show terrible.
But hey! At least they mentioned it on Jay Leno!

that is true, ED is being switched to the miss match timeslot, to make room for donald trump's new reality show.

donald trump's show didn't get very good reviews, in fact they were pretty bad, (some called it boring--him too) so maybe NBC will decide to burn off the remaining episodes sometime in the future, and bring Miss Match back early.

ED, (which took over MM's friday timeslot) has it's season finale feb 6th (seems early to me), i wonder what NBC is going to put in it's place.
at the futon critic, the press releases to the tv critics by NBC about the rest of the season didn't mention miss match at all, but wrongda at 'E' seems to think (???) that NBC may change the timeslot, and give it a big publicity hit
i kinda hope so.

Damn it!!!!!!
I just got an email from one of my bestfriends, who is an actress - I was so excited to read that she has filmed an episode of MM.
Maybe, excited is too tame a word - i was thrilled. One, my friend is a "working" actress and two, working on a good show, and third and most importantly in CC (possible) contact:D
Alas, the episode that my friend was in was #9.
Anyhow, she said it was a great working environment and that everyone got on really well - which is nice to know. So heres hoping CC gets to be a regular .

A snippet about CC from the HR AtS issue (highlight for MM spoilers):
Charisma Carpenter
Cordelia Chase
2003 likely won't be a year that Charisma Carpenter will soon forget: She welcomed the birth of her first child, began a popular recurring role on NBC's "Miss Match" and filmed the 100th episode of "Angel," bringing her portrayal of Cordelia Chase full-circle. [ed: And let's not forget that whole getting fired in the media thing. What an experience, huh? -- P.C.] (The episode marks Cordy's return to the show after slipping into a coma during the Season 4 finale.) Carpenter says her reunion with Boreanaz on the set was bittersweet. "I had a particular scene with David where we were repeating our dialogue, and it really rang true in the sense that I'm not there anymore -- and they address that," she says. "We were both kind of touched and having a moment there." Now that she has gained closure on playing Cordelia, Carpenter plans to take several meetings during pilot season and continue occasional appearances on "Match," where ---> she plays Ryan O'Neal's love interest. "Just pinch me," she says. "He's such a great person and so gorgeous. I'm having a great time right now." <---
So there you have the confirmation. It sounds as if they'd like to keep her around for the long haul if the show lasts. Wheeeeee!

So why not go for someone younger, who is still under a century in age?

Hmmmm. Colour me complex, but (Spoilers for Miss Match)** I like the comedy potential of Serena dating Kate's dad. And I like Ryan O'Neal as a comedy actor - he's one of the people I'd like to see more of on the show. So far, it seems that he's used mostly to admonish or support Kate in turns, without much independent reason for being. I'm looking forward to this.** So all in all, I think this is good news. ;)

Agreed, and agreed, and agreed. And there's something poetic about ---> an actress who was so often derided by the delusional and just plain quacked-up as being "too old" and "too ugly" for the WB and AtS and their precious, paunchy Angel being brought in as the Hot Young Thing involved with a wiry older man.<--- This is gonna be fun. :D

Well, Jake, I think who Charisma would date (hypothetically) and who Serena would date are probably two different things.
That being said, I'm perfectly happy for her to keep appearing on Miss Match as opposed to something else. It may not be sticking around, but it IS a show that still has critical buzz, and that's worth something. Hopefully she'll be starring in something completely new next season, so there's no need to get involved in a show that will be around for longer than the rest of this year. Moreoever, I hope that a recurring role will allow her to showcase different nuances to the character than a one time guest spot somewhere else will. Miss Match may be underperforming in the ratings, but it is still produced by some very powerful people in Hollywood, and I think it's better for her to be associated with talent, and to endear herself to that talent. And really, I don't think her two guest spots have been "brief" in context so far - in fact, she's had more screen time on both episodes to date than she had in some AtS episodes over the years.
So all in all, for better or worse, I'm happy enough to watch 2 or more CC appearances on Miss Match to finish the year off, supporting her by e-mails, etc. to NBC (which we KNOW has open comedy slots next year), and hoping for the best.

Given NBC's recent announcements relating to "shaking" up traditional programming, I think it's anyone's guess as to what their plans are for airing the remaining eps. They may even hold off until closer to the summer, to see if they can build an audience by counter-programming Miss Match against repeats of other programs.

This actually is a really good idea, and one that's proven to work. Networks used to launch shows as summer replacements all the time. Any number of hits were born that way.

tvnow has their listings up for march, and they don't list CC in anything except angel and buffy.
i checked alicia silverstone, and they do not list miss match at all for march (of course that could change if the network gets off it's butt and puts it back on the schedule, but as of now it's not scheduled---boo, hiss)

MID-SEASON PREVIEW
miss match (NBC, spring)
after stumbling last fall in an unexpectedly tough friday time slot, alicia silverstone's bubbly blond matchmaker-cum-divorce lawyer may get a second chance when the romantic comedy comes back this spring. at press time the network didn't expect to be making any major changes to the show.
still no date for the return, but at least they still intend to bring it back.

I would think it would come back in March seeing as how sweeps ends this week and we go into reruns on everything else.

"Miss Match"?
The Alicia Silverstone dramedy was supposed to return in the spring, but now Zucker's not sure where to put it.
There are five unaired episodes but only two hours a week NBC's looking to change, he said, and "to throw 'Miss Match' against 'American Idol' or onto Saturday night would not serve any good purpose," he said.

I don't know if it means anything but NBC changed the message on their Miss Match site from "No upcoming episode is scheduled at this date" to "Check back soon for new episode info!" Hopefully, this is a good sign and means they're planning to put it back on the schedule soon.

maybe they're waiting to see how wonderfalls does in the ratings.
if it tanks then they'll put it back on in it's old timeslot, if it does great, they'll move it to a different slot.

Still no update at the NBC.com Miss Match page. :(
Anyone up for a new round of e-mails to NBC, asking when the show is returning and expressing interest in seeing Charisma's eps? It feels like a really long time since we've seen her in anything, and I'm feeling depressed about it.

matt roush, in his weekly column says that the persistant rumor going around is that miss match will return in april.
let's hope the rumors are true
from roush's column
A defeatist attitude to be sure, but how can it be otherwise when we're confronted with so much evidence: NBC airing an Apprentice repeat where the defunct Ed once existed; ABC reneging on its promise to give Karen Sisco a second chance; NBC still dragging its feet on returning Miss Match to the schedule (although rumors persist that it will reappear on Fridays sometime in April); the blink-and-you-missed-it second "season" of Boomtown; WB's premature cancellation of Angel

From HERE (http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristin/Trans/Archive2004/040322b.html)
From nolette: Is there any news about when Miss Match returns to the airwaves? It's been forever!Alicia Silverstone was at the Genesis Awards, and she said she doesn't know whether the show is coming back. And this isn't good: David Conrad was cast in a new pilot. Booo. NBC isn't giving any answers.
There's also a mini-interview with AS in the new issue of People, the one with Trump on the cover. According to that interview, a rep at NBC said Miss Match was returning in late spring. I think there are six episodes left to air.

This may be an indicator of Miss Match's future: Lake Bell, who co-starred on the show, has been signed to play a law school graduate next season on the spin-off of The Practice. She'll be appearing in the final few episodes of The Practice this season as they set up the new show.
I'd say that even if MM does come back, it's cannon fodder.

What are star and movie meters?
tojoson
04-26-2004, 05:56 PM
STARmeter and MOVIEmeter are powerful market research tools developed by IMDb to give industry professionals insight into the popularity of film and television productions and the people who make them.
What do the rankings mean?
Plain and simple, they represent what people are interested in, based not on small statistical samplings, but on the actual behavior of millions of IMDb users. Unlike the AFI 100 or Academy Awards, high rankings on STARmeter and MOVIEmeter do not necessarily mean that something is "good." They do mean that there is a high level of public awareness and/or interest in the title or person.
How are these ratings calculated?
IMDb Pro uses proprietary algorithms that take into account several measures of popularity for people and titles. The primary measure is who and what people are looking at on the public IMDb.com website. Other factors include Box office receipts and user quality votes on a scale of 1-10.
The rankings are updated on a weekly basis.
Are STARmeter and MOVIEmeter based on polls?
Sort of. Users vote through their actions, every time someone visits an IMDb web page about one of the over 290,000 titles and over 1 million people in the database, we record that "pageview". It is the sum total of these pageviews that form the foundation of the STARmeter and MOVIEmeter rankings.
Could someone "rig" the ratings by visiting an IMDb page repeatedly?
No. IMDb.com has over 16 million visitors each month. The STARmeter and MOVIEmeter rankings are based on a cumulative total of more than 1 billion pageviews. Furthermore, we have designed the ranking algorithm so that the actions of one user (or small group of users) has a limited impact.
How do STARmeter and MOVIEmeter compare with other rankings?
Some ranking systems are based on the opinion of one "expert" or a selected group of "experts". Others use statistical samplings of a few hundred or a few thousand people, offering them a controlled set of choices, and ranking only within that set.
We, on the other hand, offer a nearly unlimited set of choices with over 290,000 titles and over 1,000,000 people to choose from, and base our rankings on the behavior of a sampling group of over 16 million monthly visitors in a real-world environment.
