Honestly, no idea. Someday I really should tell the database to update post counts when I trim it -- only that would mean any number of people would be asking me where all their posts went.

Hey, no problem -- it's what I'm here for. And honestly, now that you've gotten me thinking about it, I'm thinking that updating the post counters could solve a couple of different small but persistent database glitches.
I'll make a post later this week to ask everyone who cares to write down their post count so I can restore it if they lose a few (or a thousand).

I'll be keeping my number this time. I'm slowly but surely working my way through the latter half on the 20th century. It's a bit of a nostalgia trip each time I post.
Look at that - 1985, the year I met the husband.

it's weird, cos now that i am paying closer attention it appears that my post numbers do go up every time i log on. For example this time all my posts in the forum will show 57/8 - can't quite recall. I guess it is just telling everyone,no matter where they see a post of mine how many posts i have infact logged in.
Considering i've been around here for over 3 years, i feel i am not doing pulling my weight here. Although i find quite daunting posting among the greats - such as yourselves!
thanks again

OH, I think I get what you're saying...that all your posts show the same post number, no matter when you posted them? When your number goes up, it goes up in all posts, just as when you change your .sig, it changes in all posts. It's normal.
Durr. Sorry for the confusion!
